Hello all,

I've got a Canon 580EX mk2 and 2 cheap Yungnuo flashes used as slaves. A while ago I bought a wireless trigger set from FITP, I believe it was the PT-04, which consisted of a little node that sits in the camera hotshoe and 2 umbrella stands which I've attached to the slaves.

The problem is, I want to mount my 580EX mk2 to my camera for on camera flash and also set off the two wireless ones at the same time.

How do I do this, as at the moment the little trigger sits on the camera. I noticed a little cable came with the triggers, like a 3.5mm jack. I've got no idea what this is for.

If it makes a difference my body is a Canon 30D.

Cheers,
Nick

Basically you dont...

The idea of the wireless trigger is that all flashes are off camera.. so the transmitter sits in hotshoe and triggers the recievers which are attached to the external flashes...

If you want to mount your flash on camera, you will have to set the other flashes to slave mode, but this is only optical trigger, which wont work in strong sunlight but can be used indoors...

So you need to decide if you want to use on or off camera flash..both is not really used..

Which Yongnuo flash guns? But either way they should have an optical slave built in which will fire in sync off your 580 flash on camera, provided it is set to manual.

If it is set to ETTL, it will trigger a normal slave with its pre-flash and while everything will look like it's working as it should, the slaves will not be in sync. However, the Yongnuo 465 (I think) has an S2 slave mode which ignores the pre-flash, so you would then get the 580 working in auto-TTL mode, but with the slaves firing in sync in manual - so you'd have to set the exposure manually for them. They will probably also influence the 580 exposure too, so a bit of juggling needed there. Manual all round might just be easier and more consistent.

The 3.5mm jack is no use to you - it's for xxxD cameras. The 30D needs a 3-pin plug, which is used to fire the camera remotely.

Thanks to you both for very informative replies. I've got the yn 462 which have s1 and s2 modes and have a red optical screen on the front.

I'll give that a go and bear in mind that they might not be in sync for certain modes.
