Any advice guys, I was going to PM Gary Coyle but thought he would see it here and also throw it open to others. Just after advice on what I will need to wire, I have contacts that want them but to be honest I could get home and do it, My train of thought is sending few at a break and a few at the end whilst everything gets packed up. It could just speed up what Im doing.

i know Id email pics rather than to a ftp set up.

I know I need laptop, Any specific spec?
Connection, Cheapest/Speed/Where from etc?
Card reader, Any particular type, do I need a firewire thingy?

Thanks in advance

I havent actually "wired" per say but ive had my images wired, basically you need a laptop with a wireless connection, Vodafone 1gb dongle thingy was what mine went with, bog standard card reader used, Belkin i think, firewire not needed but a good connection is.

When i was at Elland Road the other week most guys were in a blind panic as good connections/reception were few and far between, some were queuing to use others laptops and some drove out of the ground for a better connection/reception.

It was funny to watch at the end of the game as papers had set up later than normal deadlines and picture editors were ringing up asking where the pics were.

Dave, who was sending my stuff over to Aus had to just send one or two at a time as the connection kept dropping off.

Cheers Gary, This is where im lost a little. Are all the different makes dongles the same as each other? and if that gets you a connection, why does connection/reception drop off, gather its the amount of users etc

Dont think it really matters about the dongle, what i did notice is that the guys who were happily wiring without problems were Mac users, no idea why that should make any difference though.

Cheers mate, your advice and help means alot, Much appreciated

Can i ask a favour please mods, Can you move this entire thread into sports section, Good advice off gary but wonder if many have missed it being here in PP section. Thanks

I was on location late last year and got a request for an urgent shot. Fortunatly it was one I had a copy on my laptop. Now how to get it to the client. Sounds stupid I know but MacDonalds have WiFi. Big Mac and a coke and off it went via email. Not suggesting this is should be the normal routine but in an emergency, and hey some are now open 24/7

PAYG 3G dongles are pretty cheap now, I was on the verge of buying one but am waiting to see if I can tether my iPhone to use the 3G from that...
