Hi,

Im getting a canon 430ex and i want to be able to do some off camera flash, but don’t have clue how to go about it in terms of equipment..

Il have the flash, but i don’t know if i need a wireless system of what.
I was looking at pocket wizards but I don’t know what one to get, do I need a transmitter and receiver ye?

If someone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated

cheers jayo

Hi mate,

All the things you need you can get off flash in the pan who is an advertiser on this forum. You will need a trigger/receiver set, softbox or umbrella and light stand to get you going. Pocket wizards are a very expensive option that you don't really need. The cheaper triggers/receivers do the same job.

Like Scott says, getting a radio trigger from FlashInThePan is probably the best option. Yongnuo RF-602 for about £30 a set I think.

But that will be manual exposure control only. If you want to retain wireless E-TTL, then you need a master controller on the camera, ie a Canon ST-E2 or a 580EXII which also doubles as a master and flash in one. Or a set of PWs for £400.

You could also do it with a long E-TTL cord, from FITP.
