Wireless remote questions from a D3100 owner

Having done some amount of searching for a wireless remote for the Nikon D3100 I've noticed a few things.

One is that there aren't many wireless remotes that are compatible with the Nikon D3100. I found a highly rated Promote wireless remote on Amazon (US) unfortunately its not available to ship to the UK.

I also looked up the Nikon Wr-10 transceiver that I think would allow me to to then use a wireless remote alongside but found it being sold with the remote as pack on ebay for upwards of £130 which for the time being is slightly out of my price range.

Does anyone know of any more alternative options in terms of using a wireless remote with the Nikon D3100 that are workable?

And as a sidenote would anyone care to give some insight into the wide variance in price and why someone might want a wired remote instead? (As the concept of a wired remote is making little sense to me at the moment other than possibly being cheaper).

Thanks for any help...

The D3100 does not have infra red so a regular wireless remote will not work. So you can use something like http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wireless-...kon-D3100-D7000-D90-D5100-D5000-/310410743128 or even a flash trigger such as http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yongnuo-R...for-D90-D5000-D5100-D7000-D3100-/181036328132

A wired remote is used when you you have the camera on the tripod and want to make sure that you don't wobble the camera when pressing the camera button. By using the wired remote you do not cause this camera shake. This is usually for people shooting with a slower shutter speed.

Using a wired remote means that you aren't touching the camera at all and so not pressing the shutter on the camera (and moving the body).

They are cheap, but effective for the above task.

Thanks for your replies.

So just to clarify the difference between a wired and wireless remote comes down to the price and factors such as being tethered to the camera, or battery life/availability....

I assu,e that differences in price mainly come from build quality and additional features (such as those remotes capable of driving a flash or additional body). ]

I think I'll go for the one provided in the ebay link by Milkfloat.

Thanks for your help guys.

I use rf603's with my d3100. There's a cable that plugs from the 603 into the shutter release on the side and you set of with button on the other transceiver. You can even double stack them for controlling camera and remote flashguns

Have a look at the Meike MK-RC6

Similar to the one suggested by Milkfloat, comparable price but has a longer lead - approx 1m

I bought one of these a couple of months ago.

I use it all the time and had no problems with it at all.

For the money, I can definitely recommend one
