Yes
My transmitter and receivers arrived from Flash In The Pan today, but the transmitter doesn't appear to be working. It's on the hotshoe but it's doing absolutely nothing.

Am I missing something? I can't see a battery compartment.

The transmitter flashes when I press the button on it, but it doesn't do anything when I press the shutter on my camera.

The whole casing needs to come off via a screw underneath (it was on my Cactus V4's)

Does it have a 'test' button? I recall changing the batteries from my ones from gadget infinity and that helped alot.

Have you spoke to FITP?

It has a test button, which does flash, but doesn't fire my flash unit. I'll unscrew it, hope it takes a type of battery that I have in the house, doesn't look like there's room for much other than watch type batteries.
He's not online at the moment, and I don't really want to bother him if it's just me being daft.

So if you hook up the receiver to your flash and press the test button on the transmitter, the flash fires? Then it's not a frequency issue or battery problem.

It is correctly in your hotshoe? The right way round etc?!

And there's definitely no settings on your camera to disable the flash?

... then it should be working

Does the flash fire when it's directly mounted in your hotshoe?
Do you have access to another camera to try it on?

EDIT: just read the latest post properly. It flashes a light but doesn't fire the flash?
Have you checked that the two parts are both set to the same frequency? I'm not sure about the ones from FITP but most of this type of trigger have a series of switches which allow you to choose the channel - make sure that both units are set to the same, ie that the switches match each other.

Alternatively, have you turned the receiver on and put batteries in it?! Sounds like the transmitter is powered but that the receiver isn't picking up the signal - my triggers have an on/off switch on the receiver but not the transmitter.

Right, I now have the transmitter and receiver lights reacting when I press the shutter, but the flash still isn't firing. I'm officially confused.

Yes, they're set to the same frequency, if you read my post ^^^ you'll see where I've got to with it now.

So the shutter activates the transmitter and that's successfully triggering the receiver... so far so good.

How is the receiver connected to the flash? Some triggers use hotshoe but others PC cords or jack connection.

Hotshoe. It's correctly attached.

Hmmm, must be an issue with my Sigma flashgun as my Canon one works fine. Thanks all.

I've got a vague memory about someone having to tape over some of the contacts on the hotshoe between the flash and receiver to disable/enable something or other - sorry, not very specific!

If you've got a jack or PC cable option then maybe try that - although the firing signal on a flash hotshoe is pretty simple!

Ah....Sigma flashgun, you didn't mention that - there are issues with Sigmas (and Nissins) working with wireless triggers, not just the cheap ones either, they have problems with Pocket Wizards etc too....

It's just the Sigma that's being stupid, apparently the next model up works fine, so time to sell this one and get that.
My Canon 380ex works fine though.

What issues? And with which radio triggers? Both of the types you are selling Flash?

Edit: I'm guessing it's RF interference with the lower frequency PT-04 triggers (and therefore Pocket Wizards) and that the higher frequency RF-602 units are okay?

There seems to be an issue with just the PT-04 types (all of them, right the way back, not just the ones I sell) triggering some Sigma (mainly the EF-500 range from what I can uncover) and Nissin flashguns (mainly the di622) so I'd advise NOT buying this type of trigger to use with ANY flashgun from these manufacturers.

Thanks Graham. It would seem that the OP would be better off swapping to RF-602 triggers than buying a new flash gun then.
