Yes
I know there is a weather thread, flooding thread etc, but I wanted a thread specific to today's/tonight's extreme wind located around Wales and the North West.
I'm in Manchester and it's getting pretty bad. Had a couple of taps on the patio doors, went out to find bits of what I think are slate (or chipped brickwork). Hoping it isn't from our own room.
Our back garden is windy at the best of times due to it's location and the area (It's rather exposed), so this isn't going to be good.
Everything's holding on for the moment, but the Met Office say it's going to peak around 9pm.
I think this is the first time I've seen a Red warning in the North West.......

How is everyone else faring?

We're near Chester. Both houses next door have lost ridge tiles. Don't know about our house yet not been out to look. Hopefully nothing too serious happens to anyone, but it's pretty fearsome out there right now.

Hope things are still ok for you Marcel it's very windy here in Wrexham but it's worse further west
Luckily I'm off work for a few days so am staying in and editing my backlog of photos :)

Wind was picking up a bit in Essex this afternoon, Dartford Crossing Bridge on M25 was shut, probably as a result of the wind. Wind has died down now though and bridge reopened.
We seem to be faring very well to be honest, wind picks up, not as bad as others get, rain comes with it and it dies away again in no time at all.

Traffic's pretty chaotic from what I hear. M60 > Barton Bridge is closed. M62 has car park like situations in certain places.
Our son's at drama this evening, and our daughter is going in a minute so that's gonna be a dicy drive....same with the pickup at 9:30.

Thellwall viaduct is closed in both directions too..

Yep, its a touch breezy on the Pennines

I`ve just driven up from Bristol to the north of Manchester, wind and rain is as bad as I can remember.

Was down to 40 on the way down to Bristol this morning, thought that was bad, far worse getting home tonight.

Cut off at Sandbach and went up to Knutsford to miss the Thelwall Viaduct, the M60 was horrendous around Stockport, wind was really bad on the M66.

Seriously mate, cancel them.

You should have popped in if you're not far from Bury :p

Send me your address and i`ll keep it in mind...............:naughty:

Other matter will be sorted this week as well.

Just driven over the M62 from Wakefield, (Yorkshire Mining Museum) and it's pretty hairy on the tops! Had a close shave with a truck blown across from the inside lane, but luckily I gave him a bit more room than normal. By the way, it pickled down all the time we were at the museum, so the camera stayed in the car boot. Enjoyed the trip down the mine though!

M62 is shut to wagons mate, has been for a while, one got blown over at windy gap.

Yeh, traffic was at a standstill going east, fortunately, we were heading west!

Managed to get a new top on a dodgy fence panel yesterday afternoon - in shirtsleeves, it were that warm outside! Bit blowy and wetter than an otter's pocket at times today. Had to trim the camellia and berberis back last week - just a quick trim, proper pruning when they've flowered. Poor cat's going stir crazy. She's allowed out but only dashes out for nature's calls. Can't blame her really, in fact, we wouldn't mind if she used her litter tray if she wanted!

Wouldn't mind getting down to the coast but don't really want the cars sandblasted with salty water. Maybe when the wind's died down and it's a bit safer out there.

Well I'm in bury now. The drive here was uneventful. Just crap weather. Sat here waiting for my wife to come out of drama and the cars rockin'. And not in the good way!

It's a little bit blowy in the midlands but not all that bad at all a friend lost a section of fence earlier and our bins have blown over, but they're empty so no great surprise there

Doncaster is very windy, tree down near top of my street just between parked cars and nearly blocking it.

Bloody Match called off. It is horrendous out here. Stay safe everyone.

Chris

well there will be no football to watch when you get home, match called off due to the winds

Hope the away fans are not already down here.

United game still on in Landan Taaawn?

Crewe rail station is supposedly shut because roof has either blown off or is threatening too. It was quite wild out earlier. Have chocked the back gate as that likes to flap open. Even chocked the wheelie bin . . .

A500 is also shut in one part due to a dangerous building around Shelton.

It seems rather quiet out at the moment. Wind is moving round though. Becoming more westerly.

Even if something does fly off I won't be out in it until daylight and calm!

Friend of mine has had the external stairs to her flat blown over... Onto her car, writing it off. Fire Brigade can't do anything until everything is secure so she is stuck up there for the time being.

It's less than pleasant in Rusholme too.

The only weather (apart from Lighting) when I don't particularly like living next to a huge ass stone chimney! It has probably survived much worse during its life, but it hasn't been used for a fair while now and really wouldn't like to see the result of even one of the huge blocks of stone come falling off!

You've been a photographer too long!!

First time I think we've ever had a red warning here :wideyed:

One of the offices in town had to lock down their revolving doors because the wind was actually making them spin . . . at speed!!!
And has anyone else ever seen a seagull flying sideways?

A bit of a dicey drive home, but we live in a natural dip so at least there's some shelter for us here.
Two fence panels gone, but in the overall scheme of things we're getting off fairly lightly.
A couple of miles up the road, power lines are down and hundreds of houses are without electricity.

the in-laws just phone they lost their greenhouse :( looks like their gates are on there way as well,

Do they do a flashing red warning yet, i do like a bit of raw mother nature :tumbleweed:

I like to observe too, but it's a bit much when Mother Nature rocks up at your house and tears the roof off or washes your furniture out on the street... I just hope everyone stays safe.

Yep... its breezy and keeps raining but not storm conditions down here.
everything was fine till we got near Warrington, then it all went downhill ......:)

I love satnavs

On the M56 at 4:30 heading back to warrington M6 shut

Got to J10 and 90% of the traffic is trying to get onto the A49 so I carry on down to Runcorn, over the bridge which is no busier than normal northbound and home

Really windy though, I went south over the viaduct just before they shut it , a guy in a Luton van in front of me wasn't having much fun trying to keep it in a straight line

Yeah, had some hefty gusts mid afternoon, but nothing too exciting or worrying. Just text Dad [North Wales] and Sis/my daughter [stockport], and its bloody awful but no damage so far.

Nowhere near the NW - but I'm showing a profit. Gained a shed roof today :p
