Hi

After a bit of help, father in law bought himself a Belkin multi card reader and didn't read the instructions !!
He plugged it in before installing the software / drivers - it said not to do so in bold .. and has now asked me look at it.
I've tried to reinstall it, but it's not having it. It's not showing up as a drive and I can't find it in device manager to remove it and start a fresh.

Any one any ideas where to look to remove it and allow me to start again ?
Cheers

Andy. have you tried a different usb port? I did this, (but not with a card reader) and after struggling with it for a while I tried another (there's 4 on the laptop) and it installed ok after installing the SW. Just a thought.

edit:- Try it through a USB hub too.

Cheers, will try another port - did try another, but was next to the original (only spare one) which maybe was part of a pair - will unplug something and try agin...

Plug it back in. Go to device manager. Locate reader and right click, uninstall. Unplug. Reboot.

Start from square 1.

Hi Neil

Yes, this is what I was trying to do, but can't see it in the device manager, which was confusing me and frustrating the hell out of me ...

Hi Mate

No, not yet, been back in work today and only just got back home.

You doing okay ?
Yeh, thanks for asking bud.
Still getting twinges and swelling, but walkies not suffering! Climbing ladder stiles is interesting though! You ok? apart from computer woes.

Well suffering is not quite right, but yeh, 18 months and still not 100%, but I accept the punishment as it was self inflicted!

Bad news bud, hope it soon improves for you :)

Cheers, but as long as I can get into the hills I'm not complaining

The things some people do to get their 5 mins of fame on TV :D

Yeh me too, my son took me last year for my birthday, bsb and btcc, brilliant.

Well, spent another couple of hours yesterday trying everything I could think of and what has been suggested - no luck...

Found the device in Device manager and tried to update driver - no luck, uninstalled it and tried again - no difference. Thought there might have been an issue with the disc, popped onto Belkin's web site and downloaded the drivers from there - no difference. Tried different USB ports - no difference...

Still comes up as an unknown device in Device manager and has no drivers installed, also doesn't show up in 'my computer' as a drive...

Anyone any other ideas ???

I'd think life is too short and buy another one about now - preferably not Belkin but to be fair I expect it's your computer is somehow confused.
They are such simple things as a rule.
Do you really need to read lots of different card types?
A basic one with only SD or CF would be less likely to have problems you would think.

not sure if you have done this but this is from belkin site

How Do I Fix Belkin Driver Problems?
The simplest and fastest way to resolve driver related issues is to download Driver Manager and follow the instructions.

Yes and that's what is bugging me. It's the father in laws and he's lost the receipt, otherwise I'd return it and get another / new one.

I am going to contact Belkin tomorrow though to see if they can sort a replacement.

Cheers

Andy, I'm sure I have a cheepo one somewhere you can have, try it and at least it will rule out some of your questions. Least I can do mate.

Let me try out the possible Belkin fix from Wave01 and if it doesn't help, I'll drop you a line...
