Yes
Windows has decided to stop deleting the pictures from my SD card after import for some reason.

I have checked everything I can think of, the lock on the SD card, re-set import to default valuses etc. and re-formated SD card but all to no avail.

Anybody have and thougts or ideas on how to fix this?

I am using win7 on my PC

I've never let windows manage importing photos. My default action when a card is connected is to open the folder in explorer..... then I just cut and paste the picture files where I want them.

I'll take it one step further- don't use your computer to delete images from a card at all- it shortens it's lifespan.
Reformat in camera instead.

Thanks for the replies guys and for letting me know what you do.

Now can anyone help with my problem?

Put it into another device i.e camera and format it there?

2nd what DemiLion says, never delete from the computer.

Guys I appreciate you all taking the time to reply and share how you do things but here is the deal...

I am just a hobbyist, not a pro, I take pictures for my pleasure only

This is not for my benefit but my wife's

I would just like things to work how they are supposed to.

So anyone have any idea on what the problem may be or how to fix it?

I'm I read your question wrong?
Have you tried formatting the card on a different device other than on your computer?

OR is what you're asking windows no longer deleting files off your card? (your card is working fine and formats normally on i.e camera)

SD Card is OK

Windows had stopped deleting the images from the SD card after import, even though all the settings are correct

If you hadn't asked the question I'd have expected windows default action to be copy and leave on the card. Think the camera wizard thing only copies new files so must expect old stuff to be left on the card. Erasing the card afterwards would be by formatting.

And drifting back off topic, I've never had a problem with cut and paste but I do keep a data recovery program on the netbook just in case. Deleting or quick formatting does not remove the files until an overwrite happens.

So it deletes before import? Are you using a software to delete files? You can always reinstall the program, some settings has to be wrong and it's quite hard to know the reason why without seeing the problem. Especially since you can format the card via "my computer" or format via the camera.

Right... Just manual delete it then? Have you updated windows recently? Softwares always updates and changes are made.

Anyway if you are using windows photo gallery to import then I think theres a setting in options to "move originals to recycle bin" maybe thats unchecked somehow?

I have checked to make sure all options are correct.

A search on Google shows I am far from alone with this problem but so far I have failed to come up with a fix for it hence asking here

Really? I can't find the same problem as yours on google at all. Only ones with problems with the SD card.

Sorry mate can't help much then unless you try reinstalling.

I'd even go as far as to never cut and paste in case the action fails and you lose it all. Copy and paste, check, then delete.

I don't think that can happen. If a cut fails, the items that didn't copy still remain, they don't delete.

As to the original problem I'd try formatting the card and trying again.

Never known anybody import that way before.

All I can suggest is you restore the PC to a time when it did import and delete as you wanted to.

Seriously?

You have never before heard of someone using a card reader to import pictures to there PC?

Of course I have, but never anyone using the windows importation to delete the photos after that.

Now read my suggestion for your problem and try not to be so bleedin sarcastic when folk are trying to help you!

OK

1. I was not being sarcastic at all

2. I saw what you suggested and to be honest it is non starter & not really an appropriate way to fix the problem

Now I am not sure if you got out of the wrong side of the bed or not but please keep your aggression to yourself

you tried formatting it?

obviously get the images off it first...

Hi Buddy,

Yup I have reformatted the card but not every time I admit.

I just want to get to the bottom of why this is happening and stop if from doing so again.

Anyway this is more for my wife's benefit than mine, she is a bit technophobic and just wants it to work simply like it did before & to be honest so do I as it gives me a more peaceful life LOL

Under Options when you are importing try unticking the erase box so that it does NOT erase the photos, import a few photos and then change the option back to always erase.
Probably it will not help but is worth a try :D

Reading down I was also going to suggest the last advice.

Untick the box when you import the images and leave them on the camera for a while. An extra move would be to run a registry cleaner (CCleaner is the best) and that should sort out any corrupt reg entries.

Shut down. Re-boot and then try it again.

BTW I have always deleted images via the Windows dialogue and never had a problem in ten years of doing so.
