Guys,
I've been trying update the firmware on my camera. (Canon 7D)
I down load the (zipped) file from the Canon UK site.
When I try to unzip it, I get the following ( below)
I've tried the inbuilt unziper in windows 7
I've tried Win.zip
and I've tried 7-zip
The multi lingual PDF's are readable though (In the first file)
Any thoughts or help appreciated :)

Obviously a web search has come up blank

is the .fir file not just the firmware file for the camera? (IE I am not sure you are supposed to be able to open it). I have never updated the firmware on a camera (not sure why), but would assume the pdfs would explain the procedure.

The PDF's explain the procedure,
But I'm pretty sure the file contains the actual up date,
That need to be placed on the CF card, and then into the camera,
unless I'm missing something obvious.

Its an 18Mb file so I assume that the info is all in there
From the Canon page
http://www.canon.co.uk/Support/Cons...type=firmware&firmwaredetailid=tcm:14-1121879

*Extracting the downloaded file: Right-click the zip file, and then select Extract All to extract the file. The extracted folder contains the firmware (file name: 7D000205.FIR / file size :17,461,804 bytes) and instructions on the firmware update procedures (a PDF file in five languages: Japanese, English, French, Spanish, and Simplified Chinese).

Think the FIR file is what you need. It can be confusing - I struggle every time. Think you'll find that if you use the FIR file all will be well. If it's wrong you'll just get an error message so you shouldn't come to any harm.
Copy it onto a card, put card in reader and select update from the menu. That bit is easy!

if you open a zip file in windows it'll just appear as a normal folder. as everyone has said the FIR is the actual firmware file, chuck that on the memory card and run the update.

I YOUTUBE for most things these days, for me it's easier to watch than read and understand (y)

Yep just copy then paste on to your compact flash card, then into camera for firmware update :)

That is the firmware file so just miss out the unzipping part of the instructions. Copy that to the memory card and go from there :)

What a bloody donut!

I was trying to read the damn thing rather than install it.
Thanks guys and everyone else for their input.
All sorted and up to date
