Hi, I have a tired (but working) Canon IP4600 printer that was working just fine. Until I upgraded to Windows 10, now my printer is a glorified paperweight which my cat has now made as her bed!

I only use it to print documents and pictures for my kids. But now I have to send everything to my Macbook to print, then plug it in and faf!

Is there any way I can get my printer working on Windows again? Canon has kindly said it's no longer supporting my printer so basically tough tit!

I do plan on getting a new printer, but not while I am still in Cyprus, unless they extend us here.

So I was hoping if anyone knows a cheat for this?

Revert back to your previous version, eg win 7. may work if it was fine previously.

Mother in law has a laptop running win 10 and it prints with their Canon iP4500 printer ???

Could be worth trying again / maybe try a different port to see if it finds it ?

I may seem dim, but how do I know what port it's using?

I don't want to! Before Windows 10 my PC had an issue where after every update it wouldn't start properly and I had to start the machine via the BIOS until my friend could fix it! I couldn't turn off updates, it said they were off but they still happened! Since Windows 10 that issue has been resolved!

Could be worth trying @gramps suggestion of manually installing the win 8.1 driver first to see if this helps ?

Although you can see the printer, have you selected it as the printer you want to use?
I would also re-boot your computer first.

If all else fails you could try leaving it plugged into your Mac and then share it from there. You can then connect to the printer over your network from the Windows machine and print it.

I'll see what it does when I turn the computer on later today. Although my cat was offended when he 'bed' broke in to life briefly! Not that it printed anything.

Alas with a five and seven year old running around I don't have anywhere safe to leave the MacBook plugged in.

had the same with my hp laser printer, windows 10 unsupported device, but the windows 8 64 but or even the windows 7 64 bit printer drivers work.

Canon say
http://www.canon.co.uk/support/cons...type=drivers&language=&os=WINDOWS 10 (64-bit)
If you are looking for a Windows 10 driver for a PIXMA printer, it may well be the case that the product can still function in a limited way on this new operating system using a Canon driver provided for either Windows 7, 8 or 8.1.
As Canon has not tested this functionality, we make no guarantees that this will work or that full functionality will be available, but you may wish to try this option.

This product is compatible with the following operating systems -

  • Windows 8.1 (32-bit)
  • Windows 8.1 (64-bit)
  • Windows 8 (32-bit)
  • Windows 8 (64-bit)
  • Windows Vista (32-bit)
  • Windows Vista (64-bit)
  • Windows XP (32-bit)
  • Windows XP (64-bit)
  • Windows 2000 (32-bit)
  • OS X 10.9 (Mavericks)
  • OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion)
  • Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion)
  • Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
  • Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
  • Windows 7 (32-bit)
  • Windows 7 (64-bit)

A few years ago with an older Canon Printer and an Older Windows I could not get the Printer to work, on a Phone call to Canon it was suggested to try a different USB Socket and it worked, have you tried as
suggested (above) this???

Interesting you have this problem.

Last week we went to stay with my MiL in Northern Ireland - I was asked if I could get her Word documents to print. This was a challenge and helped pass a bit of 'down-time'.

Long story short, I t seems it would not print anything with text in it - aside from googlemaps routing she showed me (should've asked when she printed it). I re-installed the Canon driver - no improvement. I then 'deep-cleaned' and purged her computer of anything Canon related (that was cathartic as a hardened Nikon user). Then downloaded a fresh set of drivers - still nothing. Tried Wi-Fi paths and USBs - nothing. Well, not strictly true - I could print the 'images' of the Windows "Print test page" but no text :(

My wife then took up the challenge as, by then, I'd exhausted my pool of rational fixes! Let me try cleaning the heads? What? But, it can do copies (it's a multi-function printer) so the heads can't be blocked. Hmmm.... some half a reservoir of inks later she can just about get a print of text which looks like the Black ink nozzle needs cleaning. We left it at that, saying that should get an HP!

Complete mystery

This made me chuckle!

I will be asking advice before I pick the next printer!!!

I have had success with unsupported HP laser printers by installing an HP 'generic' PCL6 printer driver
