Wind speed and short eared owls

Last year I went to Elmley a week after people had seen 9 short eared owls and saw 0.
Someone told me it was too windy - as it is a long drive - any advice about weather conditions to avoid?
Thanks in advance

What wind speed is too much?
Every bird is differant, there is no 'limit', some will fly if the wind is steady but if it's gusty they won't.
Like all things in nature, you just have to take what you're given, it's unpredictable :)

Owls like clear and calm conditions. Very light wind or preferably none at all is best as they use their ears as much as their eyes for hunting.

Windswept, rustling grass effectively 'deafens' them.

I’d wait a little longer if its a long drive, they are late this year and numbers are lower at present, yes we have some here already but nothing like last year (yet) hoping for another good winter albeit late arriving due to the strong SW winds we had for quite some time (thats my theory)
