My current PC is on its last legs. I managed to get a new i7 cheap but it's got XP installed. Unfortunately I can't find my windows 7 disk, although I made a note of the serial number. Does anyone know if I can download a copy from MS? It's a genuine retail copy, not OEM, and I'm quite happy to unregister the install.

It's the 64 bit universal edition so I really don't want to buy it again!

You can use any x64 Retail copy disc, the COA controls the version, unfortunately no MS download though. You'll need to acquire elsewhere or get a loan of one from someone (might be worth burning a backup if you do get a lend of one).
 
Fantastic! Thanks for your help. I'll try the download today and go on the cadge tomorrow if that doesn't work for some reason.
