Will the 300mm f4 + 1.4x extender work on the 5D II?

I'm debating my next lens upgrade. Will the 300mm f4 with a 1.4x extender work on the 5D Mark II from a focus point of view?

It puts it at f5.6. Am I right in thinking you need a 1D to focus?

If the 5d is like the 7d then 5.6 is fine, think the 1 series can focus at f/8?

Yes, absolutely. All Canon DSLRs will AF quite happily if you have a maximum aperture of f/5.6 or better.

You mean, except the 1D and the 1Ds. They will both AF so long as the minimum aperture is f/8 or better.

I've used this combo on the 5D classic with no probs at all. Prefer it on crop though for reach purposes.

thats what it meant 1ds(all) but i will state the 1d series next time,
