We all enjoy taking photos of differing wildlife, but what do you give back?

Be interesting to know what people do to give something back,I know that a few are involved in the Rutland Osprey Project and some are involved in owl projects, for example.

I put some bread out for the birds and I have a bag of peanuts hanging in the garden... does this count?

I support the wwt, rspb, norfolk wildlife trust and a few others

I've worked in nature conservation for years, currently working for the Wildlife Trust and was a National Trust warden prior to that. I'm a member of the RSPB and WWT. If anyone fancies doing some practical nature conservation then there's loads of opportunities volunteering, it's a lot of fun too. :D

Used to work for the Scottish Wildlife Trust when I was younger and have been a member of the RSPB for many years.. probably the biggest thing I give back is my feeding stations in the garden though, wee buggers cost me a fortune each month :)

I and a small group of like minded friends keep a watch on the local raptors and pass on information and, where possible, evidence of persecution to those organisations dedicated to seeing those responsible brought to justice.
Also seem to have an ever increasing task of collecting and disposing of fishing line discarded by anglers.

I've been a member of the RSPB for donkeys years. Now go ask something relevant:p

We are RSPB members and are transforming our, albeit small, garden into a wildlife haven, see some of my bird posts for the latest results. Like Tommy (gonetae) wild bird food costs us a fortune each month.

I write lists of things I see, along with time and date and location, send it to a friend who works for the local wildlife trust... normally if its a good snap I send the pic too.

Not much but every lil' helps I suppose...

I try to help businesses in the areas where I observe the wildlife; I can't tell you how much duck, goose, and venison I've eaten.

Dave

I am a member of the RSPB and have a feeding station in my rear garden. I am a supporter of the Society and have taken part in their bird watch programmes.

I support a nearby wildlife park with regular donations, the RSPB, WWF and the owners of the local deer-park so they can monitor the nesting sparrowhawks.

13 long years as a warden (unpaid but worked 35 hours a week) for SWT.
Now have my own patch ( thanks to a generous landowner who indulges me a bit) where I maintain nestboxes & generally try to improve the lot of nature. Currently working through a twenty acre Larch/ Scots Pine woodland thinning it out but leaving odd thick areas around suitable nest trees. Thinking Buzzard or maybe even Osprey.
Then there are my wee Red Squirrels!
Will that do?

I count myself fortunate & lucky that I can do this as I realise lots on here would like the opportunity of doing similar.

Can you give us some more information on this please?

As farmers we leave untouched headland and hedges for the birds etc. We have grants to plant new trees to replace the old. I feed all the birds possible in the garden (which costs an absolute fortune but love making birdie cake for them:thumbs:)

Pheasants are fed every day (yes we do have a shoot also not going to hide that!) but also that feeds the muntjac, roe deer etc. We are fortunate not to have any cattle around so the badger population gets left well alone.

On the other hand of helping, we cull all the mangy foxes, injured deer, sick and maimed mammals, but some may not see it as that.

Donations are made if and when I want to do it.

Swings and roundabouts

Volunteering? Try contacting tour local National Trust, Wildlife Trust, RSPB etc. and see what they offer. I started doing NT working holidays, usually a week long you stay in a bunkhouse and undertake various conservation tasks on NT property, check out their website for details. I volunteered full time for two years before getting a paid job in the sector.

Nice to see that some put something back.Well done to you all and interesting to see who does what.

No ulterior motive in this thread at all, I was just curious..................

I have been employed in nature conservation in South Africa, Zambia and Botswana all goverment positions. I am still involved with some private organisations in an advisory capacity. I support the WWF, currently I support a charity to stop the poaching of rhinos. Rhino poaching is getting out of control in South Africa with even vets getting in on the act. The value of rhino horn in the Far East makes it a lucrative proposition for organised crime.

If you are interested follow Stop Rhino Poaching on Facebook.

RSPB member, spend a fortune on bird seed for the garden, do the two environment days a year that work allow volunteering for Suffolk Wildlife Trust as a team building thingy.

I also work for the Environment Agency and spend most of my time clearing up pollution incidents and regulating waste sites etc so that we have a better, cleaner, healthier countryside for all.

Wonder who that could be?......................

Member of RSPB, WWT, Essex, Sussex, Norfolk and Herts & Miidlesex wildlife trusts. Feed around 10kg per week in the garden and spent many hours trying to make one corner of the garden wildlife-friendly. When I finally get some time I'll be volunteering at the local RSPB.

Would that be the same kind man who is about to donate to The Loch of the Lowes some timber for making Red Squirrel feeders. Once I have had a look at what they actually want!
Oh & you need to buy more firewood cause what you bought last year did not keep the reds in the manner to which they have become accustomed for very long. Just teasing by the way.;)

We look after 4 wild cats who sleep in my greenhouse......thats cats cats not Big Cats!!

Decided on a permanant spot for the timber hide Charlie. Considered lots of option and have decided to place within easy access for people who want to use it.So it is going in the wood on the non shooting estate.

Am I better off getting some 6x6 tanalized timber to place it on?
