Wildlife photos - do you need to actually be there?

I think the image is a great result of time and perseverance and well deserved, it wasn't just a "strap a few cameras to trees " , DSLR camera trapping is a skill in its self to produce images that stand out like the one that won the 2020 Wildlife Photographer of the Year Award, their is too much negativity aimed at the photographer because he wasn't there. Will Burrard Lucas who uses the camtraption system ( his invention ) and he has produced some awesome images from this set up, he probably hasn't been given half as much flack from people as the other guy. Less of the sour grapes, negativity and perhaps a bit of the green eyed monster involved here :) (y)

Can’t speak for others but no sour grapes from me, it’s just an interesting discussion and, as has been mentioned, there are complicated rules around this competition that others have fallen foul of before :( ... and then there’s that monkey that claimed copyright (cunningly claiming through PETA , or similar so no one knew it was him/her) :).

Those that think this is an easy " strap some cameras to a tree " perhaps they could post some images from their results from DSLR camera trapping trials just to show us all how easy it is, I for one look forward to all the info, tips and techniques that I could potentially learn from any experts out there :) :) :) :)

I have saw some cracking trail cam images of the Highland Tiger( Scottish wildcat) , wonder if they would have been in with a chance if entered as they are almost as rare. I would say the rarity of this Tiger has played a big part on it winning. Its a decent image of a very rare animal but not much more than that.
