So the results are out and the overall winner is a shot of an Orangutan climbing up a tree in Borneo.
The shot was taken from a static GoPro camera fixed at the top of the tree and triggered remotely by the photographer, Tim Laman.

(exif: GoPro HERO4 Black; 1/30 sec at f2.8; ISO 231)

So who needs a 'Pro' camera or an exotic prime lens? :banghead:

Guess you just need to know how to climb trees :)

It's a good image (part of a series I believe). The photographer visualised what he wanted to capture then figured out how he was going to get it. The equipment used was appropriate for the job, so I'm not really sure what the issue is.

A worthy winner imo ...and he has an awesome name :P

I like the it as an image, but it isn't my favourite by a long shot, the trawler with the humpback for me is a much better picture. .!

I would have gone for the Urban Leopard, then the Fox

Amazing percentage of images involving underwater.

I could quibble about the composition not being quite ideal, but I reckon it's a worthy winner. It does a great job of conveying the high, treetop world of the orangutan better than a long telephoto shot wood. Not had a good browse though the images yet, but one that did strike me was Alex Mustard's underwater cormorant.

For me this year's crop as a whole is quite as good as in some previous years, but I'm sure this is just down to differences in the judging panel's tastes this time around

I'm not going to look, I go to it at the NHM every year, they look so much better backlit in the dim light there. I did see the winner though and quite liked it.
