You'll be better off getting separate volumes. Be wary of anything too wide ranging though. I bought myself a copy of "Collins Complete British Wildlife Photo Guide" to find that it is not complete and, in fact, inaccurate in it's identification of some species.

For birds look at the various RSPB publications and decide which one suits you best. The more expensive ones have more information about each bird.

For mammals it really depends on how much detail you are after. A generic mammals of the British isles book such as http://www.amazon.co.uk/Britains-Ma...=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1318740960&sr=1-2 is probably a good place to start but will, by it's nature, be somewhat limited in it's scope.

Thank's mike, i was looking at the "Collins Complete British Wildlife Photo Guide" but it didn't seem all that good to me, and i totally forgot to check rspb website and endorsed book's. Would probably make more sense to buy separate guides instead of all together as one.
