Wild dogs

For a moment I thought I had come into TP's dog haters anonymous club :ROFLMAO:

Been bitten in three places by neighbour's dog which wasn't fun. But still I don't hate them. Also small more excitable dogs make me more wary than the large well behaved ones.

When I was child we had couple dogs around.
More recently one of my past local pub owners had a very nice great Dane. Their size is a bit intimidating but he was lovely to have around.

I see dogs a bit like children. They are only nice when they are yours. I have no false ideas about my 3 year old being cute or fun for anyone else having to put up with him antics.
Same way uncontrolled dogs with rubbish owners I don't like. As long as they are kept away from me and/or well behaved I don't mind them. Same goes for their children lol :p

Oh yes, had a lot of bites, some from my own dogs, but mostly friends’ dogs, stopping scraps for example. One of the few things I know about my maternal grandfather is that my Mother had a memory of him in his seventies sitting with his hands in disinfectant after seperating his terriers in a scrap ... maybe it in my genes  .

About 10 years ago a teenage relative was walking my dog on a lead in Park in Leeds and a “staffie type” dog attacked my dog from nowhere and damn nearly severed his head, the relative also got his arms badly bitten. When the youthful ‘owner’ appeared he just ran off with the offending dog :(. My dog, who was very non-aggressive with other dogs, survived with huge scars.

I'll wager there are far more feral and violent chavs etc than there are dogs and besides, look at all the amazing things dogs do for people:

  • Guide dogs and other similar types of services (hearing assist, seizure assist, anxiety attack etc)
  • Bomb, weapons, drugs etc detection
  • Therapy and emotional support including helping children with autism
  • Search and Rescue
  • Home Protection
  • Riot control
  • Hunt down and disarm criminals
  • Contribute to your happiness as a loyal family member
  • Contribute to your health both through physical exercise and various other factors (allergies etc)
  • Cancer detection
  • Assist farmers
  • The list goes on...

Dogs are awesome. :)

We train them to do this, we train them out of their instinctive behaviours to do this. People get dogs to this. Dogs of their own accord...well...read the news article. That's them at base level.

Dogs are awesome. :)

Only if we make them a bit less dog like.

Personally if I never see, hear, encounter another dog I will count myself touched by the hand of god.

And why do you think we are able to train them? Have you tried training <insert random animal here> ? Dogs co-evolved with us and we possibly wouldn’t be here without them.

1) Steve, I have to ask why you start threads like this when you know the responses you are going to get. If I didn't know you better, I'd think you were trolling.

2) This thread doesn't belong in Talk Nature, it belongs in Out of Focus/Hot Topics but you're (voluntarily) banned from that section of the forum, aren't you.

3) As we have closed Hot Topics for the festive period, I don't really see much point in letting this thread continue

Happy Christmas! :lock:
