Hi all

As the subject, WiFi Calling

It does seem to be a beneficial option especially in areas where mobile signal is poor to non existent.
This of course on the surmise that you can use an available WiFi service.

So does anyone use it and how have you found it's(?) performance?

TIA;)

I have to us it all the time - I'd have no service most of the time otherwise.

Cell-phone signals here on the Isle of Wight have always been bad. They've only marginally improved over what they were like forty years ago. :headbang:

It's great. My mobile provider was very slow in providing it but it's made a big difference. Reception in the house is patchy so it's much better to use the wifi where possible.

Typically better than mobile! I have used it for years. It has improved now so that most phones / providers can switch between wifi and mobile seamlessly.

Used it for years. Originally it would hiccup, at best, or drop the call at worst when switching between cellular and WiFi. Now it is much better.

A point worthy of note is that some providers will still deduct/charge for minutes used on wifi calling. This is in my opinion, completely wrong.

It can be avoided by using the likes of Signal & WhatsApp etc. to make calls. The downside is that the person you're calling must have the same App.

Thanks all for the generally positive experiences :)

I did check details on EE and as I have unlimited included minutes & texts, if I understand correctly, that allowance is part of WiFi calling.

FWIW out mobile signal at home is pretty strong, though not the very strongest, and currently I have set WiFi calling for "mobile than WiFi" I started on "WiFi then mobile" and tested a quick call to out landline number and the OH was on that phone and it was very clear at both ends of the call:)

Might be worth reverting to "WiFi then mobile" and see how I/we get on

I believe iPhones use wifi where available by default.
I use it without giving it any thought

My O2 SIM provides it (not all service provider SIM cards will). It's useful because there's no mobile signal at all inside my workplace.

I used it (or tried to) while i was with Ecotalk (uses the EE Network) and it really didn't make much difference. Apparently you need a certain signal strength already before it will work - I think that's what they said........

I didn't realise there were different settings for Wifi Calling.

Eventually I had to ditch Ecotalk/EE and went with Giffgaff (O2) which is has a much better signal here.

Never heard of Eco talk
Though a search says they allow WiFi calling it seems their way of doing it creates issues for their customers.

The fact that they use the EE service AFAIK doesn't necessarily mean all the service/functionality is identical.

Occasionally I have turned off cellular, to make sure that WiFi is used and the phone doesn't keep on switching.

Alternatively, depending what type of phone, FaceTime Audio, or WhatsApp or similar
