Yes
Wifey has told me to disappear on my motorbike for the bank holiday weekend to go and relax, so she has given me free run. No passport, so must stick within the UK. Have bike will travel. Got camera, tripod, and no clue where to go, was thinking of the Lakes as never been, but open to suggestions.

Anyone?

Is it for this weekend?

If it's for the following weekend there's the meet at Bluebell Railway (in Sussex) and Heaven Farm!

BSB at Donington Park, weekend ticket including camping is about £29.

Chris

Just had a look on www.bbc.co.uk/weather and saturday and sunday are meant to be sunny but only 17-18C so i'd think the lakes would be a good place to start, further south it looks a bit changeable

If you need to ask us what to do with a free weekend you shouldn't be allowed on a motorbike. ........... How about a game of doms? :D

:nono:

Me? I'm with JL. ;)

saw forecast, wet down south apparently. stay north.
go really far north maybe? an island, like skye or somewhere like that? i dunno, just a thought. I'd like to go there :)

though JL may have a point if there's loads of rain on the way.

Wouldn't go too far north as you might not be able to afford the petrol by the time you have to come back... ;)

Yeah! We're filling up every receptacle we can so we can sell it later to tourists......it's the new moonshine!

LOL, thanks guys for all the suggestions, already fitted cameras inside the house, just dont tell her. Going to head up north tomorrow lunch time and see where the roads take me.

Isle of Man from Liverpool or Heysham. Heaven on earth

Lakes, lakes, lakes!!!

Was up there yesterday working but still managed a quick 1/2 hour togging at Derwent Water. Keswick is just my dream location. Ullswater, Coniston, hills to die for....................

I'd be asking WHY? what's she up to... :suspect: :suspect:

The lakes sounds good though.

Again thanks guys for all the helpful suggestions, but had to put this one on hold, never realised just how popular the lakes are, and didnt book anything, tried all morning to find somewhere, couldnt go yesterday as had to get a new back tyre for the bike, so going to postpone for a few weeks and book somewhere in advance. Could not believe how quickly camp sites book up either, otherwise would have strapped my tent to the bike. b****r.....

You don't need a passport to leave the UK if traveling to another EU country some kind of photo ID is required a new style driving license it fine. Assuming nothing has changed in the last 2 years!

You should jump on a ferry and then see where you end up!

I'll let you try it ;)

"Although the United Kingdom is part of the European Union (EU), you still need to carry a full British 10-year passport (or five-year child passport if you are under 16 and not on a parent’s passport) every time you travel to Europe. This includes day trips and travel by Eurostar.

Many countries no longer check passports at their land borders, but they still expect visitors to be able to produce a valid form of identification. For UK travellers this is the British passport. Remember, your passport will have to be checked at immigration control when you return to the UK."

Oops. Sorry! They have obviously changed it recently, probably due to the rest of the EU not wanting to let anyone out of the UK without them not knowing about it.

I believe a lot of EU member states (not the UK though) can travel across borders without one, obviously we cannot be trusted :suspect: - Mind you, we seem to let just about anyone in these days... :annoyed:

It's called the Schengen Agreement
It's not about Brits not being trusted, far from it, the rest of the EU would much prefer to have the UK as part of the system, it's that the UK government opted out, nobody seems to have a good reason why, other than it forces UK citizens to actually have passports, a vital part of the back door ID card system so vital to the apparent plan to turn the UK into a police state....but I digress.

Saw a story this morning about a woman who forgot to bring photo ID to get a flight from Dublin to Cork. The check-in people were refusing to let her fly, until half the other passengers stared pointing her out in one of the national newspapers. They actually let her fly!

Well its now all sorted, my spur of the moment "sodding off for weekend" has gone, could not get accomodation. So now have booked a few days off from work and booked a B&B in Keswick.

June 25,26,27 will be staying up there, just me, bike and camera and maybe a guinness or two, cant wait.

Any cant miss spots that you would recommend?

This reminds me of a Smith & Jones sketch...

"My wife tied herself to the bed and told me to do whatever I wanted... so I had a shave and went down the pub"

A.

Go to the lakes.... drive across via hadrians wall....carry on east and visit the northumberland coast.

3 bird's with one stone!

Guys, all I can say is WOW.... even though it rained for 4 days and rained alot... I used to think my bike gear was water proof, it certainly was not lake district proof...! Still managed to get a few shots in between downpours.... and of course in between those spent in pubs. Absolutely enjoyed it and will go back, even though it took almost 8 hours to get there (wind was unbelievable on way) I will go back again. Posted some pics in the landscape section.
