Yes
can anyone explain why when watching newish films (2005) on sky movies hd there is a broad black band at the top and bottom of the screen.
Our HD tv is widescreen and I thought we had seen the last of those black top and bottoms when we used to watch widescreen movies on a normal tv.

have they just made films even wider or something??

It's probably a movie that's been shot in Cinemascope and broadcast at the correct aspect ratio. Widescreen TV is 16:9 (1.78:1) whereas Cinemascope is 2.35:1

NO I'm definitely in 16:9 both on the sky setup and the tv menu.

MaYBE its the cinemascope thing then.

Thanks.

Annoying as Hell that. I usually use Movie Expand which gets rid of 'em.
