Being looking at the Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX AF 11-16mm f/2.8, can anyone
give me thumbs up or down compared to the Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 EX DC HSM

Haven't tried the Sigma but I have the Tokina and I really like it -great photos, well put-together. No complaints so far! Great value for money for an f/2.8 lens which dovetails nicely with my Nikon 17-55 f/2.8....

I think i might give it a try, i like the f/2.8 part and like yourself my next lens starts at 17

I havent tried the tokina either, but my sigma is welded to the camera 75% of the time, 100% for light painting and night photography. It's just that good!

I would like 2.8 though for some stuff, but it's not the end of the world I guess.

I've got the Sigma 10-20mm and for the times I use it it's great.

If you have a look at the flickr account below, these were taken for my mate who's a joiner with it.

Depending on what you are wanting to shoot with it, F2.8 might not be worth the extra expense ?

Its make your mind up time,do i need f/2.8 or would the wider range of the Sigma be of more use to me, i think the latter wins if i am honest with myself.
andyred if i can get the quality results you have acheived with your 10-20 i would be a happy bunny, and by the way your mates a bloody good joiner

I can definatly 2nd that, and if you want further proof check My Light-Painting thread here, all my shots have been taken with it on my 500D crop so you see how wide the range is on that to compare. Also all these have been taken at night so you can see that the 2.8 might not really be needed even for night shots. (My later shots in the thread are much better examples ;))

reviews favour the tokina 11-16mm over the other ones in its class.... there just hard to get hold of... been trying to get a good deal on one for a while, but there holding thre value well..

Try Panamoz 360 quid brand spanking new.... Cheaper than used ones go for in the classifieds.

I just got the Sigma 10-20mm f3.5 and took it out today for the first time. Great lens and I got the below plus a few others on my Flickr stream. But I can't comment on the Tonika.

did look into panamoz but was concerned when i found out the advertised address 'Unit 36, 88-90 Hatton Garden, London, EC1N 8PG' is actually derelict- so where would my moeny actually be going???

Hong Kong

the reviews I have read favour the tonika for nikon users, but for canon crop users it is the canon efs 10-22

Would you rather buy a used lens without any kind of guarantee for the price of a new imported lens with at least some kind of guarentee?

just to add i bought my Tokina 11-16 from them about 2 weeks ago problem free.

Thanks Pete, very kind...

I was very pleased with how they came out

for canon crop users it is the canon efs 10-22

Absolutely!

I own both lenses and the Canon has one huge advantage over the 11-16: flare. The 10-22 is one of the best lenses in the universe regarding flare, the Tokina is the worst I've ever owned.

Having f2.8 is really only useful if you're shooting in very dark conditions, where it's the only way to get a short shutter speed. With wide angle lenses DoF is almost as huge at f2.8 as it is at f3.5, making aperture almost irrelevant.

Image sharpness is virtually identical, the Tokina has slightly worse chromatic aberration, but it's hardly noticeable. The Canon obviously has a much better range of focal lengths.

I did check out the Sigma 10-20, but I couldn't get both sides sharp at the same time. This centering problem is fairly common with this lens.
