Hi

little bit of advice please i wish to purchase a wide angled lens. i am undecided between the canon 17-40 f4 and the sigma 10-20 f3.5. my other lenses include sigma 120-300 and the canon 24-105, and i will be using it on a canon 1d mk4

Kind regards Wicksey

I don't think the Sima 10-20 is compatable with the 1D series, only 1.6 crop cameras. The widest zoom for that camera is Sigma's 12-24

My understanding is as above.

The 17-40 is a great lens, I found it worked particularly well on my 1D, I much preferred that focal length on 1.3x crop than on FF.

I have the 12-24 and bought a 17-40 with the intention of keeping a single wide angle lens. The 17-40 produces better pictures (on a 5D2) than the 12-24 (the 17-40 is sharper and has better colour reproduction and is a more consistent performer). The 17-40 doesn't go to 12mm though... which is why I still have both.

If it helps, the 17-40 on a 1DmkIII is one of my most used combinations.

Although I may actually be selling it so I can get the slightly sharper and wider 16-35 mm but that's only because I have the opportunity to advantageously update several lenses this month. Otherwise the 17-40 is a great lens for the budget and built like a tank... If it was a tracked vehicle with guns and armour that is.. Well.. You know what I mean. :D

Do you intend to use the longer or wider part? for 20mm+ get Canon, but if you want wider look at Tokina 12-24mm. They work a treat as long as you don't want wider than 14/15mm. I regret selling mine.
