Hi all, new to the forum and looking for some help around wide angle lenses.

I prefer landscape shots and been told a good wide angle lens is good to have in your bag? Also helping a friend cover some weddings and the wide angle discussion has again popped up. My question is: is this true? And has anyone got any recommendations?

Cheers in advance
Paul

Hi & welcome

The Canon 10-22 or the Tokina 11-16 would be good choices for your camera if doing landscapes. It is true that WA lenses marry well to landscape photography.

Wide angle lenses are some of the most creative and rewarding lenses you can use but also some of the most difficult and of course they're not just for... getting it all in.

I think it'd be a good idea to Google your way to some wide angle shots and see what's possible. It's also worth thinking about composition, perspective and camera to subject distance.

Personally I think the view that you need a wide angle to do landscape is one of the cliches that I love to hate.

To be honest I've done some landscape previously and not used a wide angle. I'm just trying to improve my knowledge and kit hence the question. The fact it came up during a conversation about wedding photography brought be on here asking the question?
