I'm looking a wide angle lens for motorsport (motocross, rallying etc) for my 40d

I currently have the 18-55mm is (which af is abit slow and want better IQ)

Have a 70-200f4, so just want something wider to go along with it.

Max price around £500

Thinking 2nd hand 24-105, 15-85mm or even a 10-20mm

Any suggestions?

Canon 17-55 f2.8,sigma 17-50 f2.8,both have IS/OS which helps a bit with panning.
The 24-105 is OK but not all that wide on a 40D

For £500 I would be looking at the canon 17-55, I have one and it is absolutely amazing.

I have used the Sigma 10-20 and the Canon 17-55 IS for rallying.

Sigma I think

Sigma 10-20mm 3.5-4.5? or fixed 3.5? Great photo!

17-55 canon IS seems to be abit outta budget, anyone any experience of the sigma 17-50 os hsm 2.8?

How close can you get to the action? I have used the 10-20 a couple of times but was literally ontop of the action :)

I can get really close to most motocross/rallying over here. Hows the AF speed on the Sigma 10-20mm's?

It's the original variable aperture one f4-5.6

Yes, after reading the reviews it is apparently sharper than the fixed aperture and a better lens which is a bonus as was cheaper when I bought mine :)

Will try find some photo's at some point but running in and out lol...

A Canon 10-22 is a great lens for motorsport and is one of my favourite lenses.
Depending how brave you want to be, the 10mm Sigma fisheye is also a cracker and regularly comes out when I'm doing any form of motorsport.
Being in Aus, I'm not sure whether either of those fit your budget though.
