Why is Lightroom removing in camera effects?

Evening all,

I was having a play with some of the B&W filters in the Custom Images on my Pentax K-R and actually quite liked the results, however when I import the raw files into Lightroom, as soon as I select one of the files that had an effect it resets the image to a plain colour one.

This is mightily annoying as I can't figure out why its doing it and thus how to stop it. Any ideas?

Cheers

The only way to stop it is to not shoot in RAW. RAW is the digital negative with no processing applied at all. Anything you have set in the camera will not be applied to the RAW, you must apply it yourself in Lightroom.

An interesting option that i haven't tried as i don't have pentax. I found it via google. You shoot using DNG with the pentax, then in LR you can choose the "embedded" option when you choose which profile to process the DMG file. Supposedly the pentax will embed the camera settings into the DMG.

In the manual on page 196, it says you can change from PEF to DMG when you save in the RAW format.

I guess you need to experiment. Without this type of camera myself i can't test it. But good luck :)
