Why does Google Chrome 'suddenly' start up as soon as I turn my PC on?

Recently, when I turn my PC on, as soon as the desktop loads, Chrome starts up - with MSN as the home page, I've never ever used MSN and Chrome has never ever opened up like this before.
I don't know what I've done and I'm thinking a recent update might have caused it?

I've hit the settings tab in Chrome, under Startup I've wrote Google.co.uk as the specific opening page (that's what is listed there anyway).
I've been into Taskmanager's startup tab but Chrome isn't there so I can't disable it.

I'm not sure what else to do, can anyone help?

Windows 10 64bit.

Cheers

Check Task Scheduler.

Yes you might have set Chrome as default browser with page to auto open as MSN got browser setting you will the default page setting. It happens when you download certain application like MSN messager or skype they try to set the default page to there company.

One day they will rule the world;)

Uninstall Chrome completely and get it again.
When you log-in all favourites and such should repopulate in a minute or two.
If you can't change the homepage from MSN it's a bit strange but a typical virus style thing probably wouldn't send you there.

Find MSCONFIG and check which programs run at startup,it might be that chrome is set to run at start up, in which case disable it

Hi guys
Thanks for all your suggestions, looked at most (msconfig, Task Scheduler, Task Manager, Chrome isn't shown anywhere)
Will try 4wd's suggestion of uninstalling and starting again.

Cheers

I've ended up with Chrome installed because I failed to uncheck a box when downloading something else. Deleted it. Don't like having to tick boxes to opt out rather than in.

Father in law has some software that updates okay, but you have to really check what it does on the update as it automatically ticks various boxes to make certain things default / install as well - last one I caught for him was to make "ask" the default browser.

A right real pain in the backside as I generally get the call, when he's updated something and not seen / unticked said boxes...

Just back form my holiday :) and decided to uninstall Chrome and start again. It still does it, complete with the damn Msn homepage. :( Chrome isn't even my default browser.

Do you need Chrome? Why not just use Firefox or something else and dump Chrome altogether.

In Task Manager there is a tab for start-up, you will likely find Chromium in there, right click on it and disable.

Hi guys. Didn't find Chrome in the start up. but made Edge my default browser for a bit.....and it also starts up on it's own when I turn my PC on, complete with MSN homepage (google is set as my homepage) I might dump both foir a while and see if I get along with Firefox. Does Firefox still have old style bookmarks (I do miss them)

just a quick update...
Edge, Chrome AND Firefox open up on their own at start up. None are listed in task manager's start up tab :(

Are you actually rebooting to achieve this odd behaviour?
I always leave mine in standby so I don't expect it would do anything except instantly continue as it was left.
I often leave a browser minimised anyway.

I'm not sure about W 10, but click on start and does 'Default Programs' come up as an option?

If it does, click on it and then 'set program access and computer defaults'. Go to 'custom' and see what comes up for your browsers.

Hi guys
Yes 4wd, only when the computer has been off for a while, sometimes a day or two.

It's stopped doing it now :( I've had my PC on 3-4 times since last posting. But I bet it starts again when I come back to my PC on Saturday
I've been into default programs, Chrome is listed for now.

I guess it's no biggie, but just a bit annoying, especially as it's always a MSN page that opens up.

Cheers

Untick the box for Chrome as a default program next time it happens, which it surely will :)

oh no, you can't do that, there's no unticking, all you can do is choose one of the 3 browsers installed or look for another app in the store :)
