Why do pictures look better in photoshop than in windows??

i adjust a photo in photoshop, get it looking perfect. ive sorted out the colour spaces now and all is alright now but photos look much sharper and crisper in photoshop than what they do on the standard windows photo viewer.

why is this?

what can be done to get them looking the same?

Try Picassa? I tend to view mine in the slideshow and they look better than in PS

i think windows is just pants - lookign at mine on fox saver they look much better

ok fair enough, but if you send your "perfect" picture to somebody else and they open it up in windows, do they not view the not so good version?

I send pictures on a CD created in Picassa. If the person chooses to open an image in windows, nothing I can do about it.

Is the Windows picture preview automatically scaling the photo to fit the window size? Make sure it's set to actual. You shouldn't see a difference in sharpness between Photoshop and a viewer, although try downloading http://www.irfanview.com/ and see what happens.
