Weddings usually take place during daytime. Have done for centuries, afaik. Yet these days brides wear (preferably strapless) ballroom evening gowns! Not wedding dresses!
Why?

More flesh on show to exhibit the tan (bottled or real). I'm sure trends and fashions will change at some point back to daytime attire.

LOL  Cant say im a fan of the tan myself! Im naturally pale so would stoooopid if i bothered!

Iv just got mrried myself and people were quite suprised that i didnt have the strapples ballgown. I went for elegance and flowing - oh and floor legnth sleeves!! :D

It MUST get a little boring for wedding photographers to see the same type of dress all the time!:shake:

Good for you - that's a beautiful dress  In the first shot, it looks like your hubby is standing on a box? ;)

Thanks! I actualy had it made for me as its so hard to find anything like that on the market. I think it should have been me standing on the box LOL hubby is a foot taller than me!!

I did not wear traditional dress either time I got married. This April we were married on Gibraltar in The Botanical Gardens.

My dress was made for me also, by a lady well known in the area for her Feria Dresses, she made mine sort of in that style :) and we added hair and hand flowers.

Your dress is amazing! I love it! If I ever convince the other half that it's a good idea I want a dress just like that!

The photos are beautful also, thanks for sharing, please feel free to add more!

Congrats, Kanikula. Nice pix.
But from where I'm sitting that certainly looks like a very strapless dress . . .

Gorgeous dress's both

cos they're called Bridal Gowns these days....

I wore a strapless wedding dress. I designed it myself and had it made for me. It's based on when I was little and wanted a princess dress cos of Disney cartoons like Cinderella and Snow White 20 years ago. Goodness don't I sound sad

From Wikipedia...
A dress (also frock, gown) is a garment consisting of a skirt with an attached bodice or with a matching bodice giving the effect of a one-piece garment.

In common usage, bodice refers to an upper garment that has removable sleeves or no sleeves, often low-cut, worn in Europe from the sixteenth century to the eighteenth century, either over a corset or in lieu of one.

Oh and here's my dress (sans tan as well):lol:

G O R G E O U S !
But although camouflaged in white, and with a trail, and a veil added on, that's still a strapless ballroom evening gown to me.

Not sad at all, I got married when it was fashionable to look like a meringue  - your dress is lovely :)

:thinking:Maybe the couple dont want to spend a fortune on a wedding dress that will probably only be worn once! As pete says just wear a thong then dont bother getting changed just go straight on your honeymoon to the Maldives! sorted:)

I got married last year and opted for 40's inspired simplicity. We were married in Charleston, South Carolina, overlooking the water, which explains the wide verandas and rocking chair. ;) Photo courtesy one of my former students who is now a big-shot photog herself.

i noticed at most of our weddings , the dresses are off the shoulder jobbies now. def dont suit everyone .the skinier women ( no bust) can look rather odd in them.
all mostly white still, but a lot are coming with a broad band of colour down the back.
corset style , tie back dresses are popular too.
as is lace /diamante detailing too.
oh god , i sound like a gay dress designer.
still dont quite get your point about gowns/dresses.

off white, cream and very light green and pink are becoming quite popular in the US. I"m the maitron of honor at a wedding next year so I know more about this than I care to (I eloped to Denmark so don't know about it personally).

So whats the difference between a white wedding dress and a white ball gown?

About £300?

I've shot some lovely brides in red, even black, dresses - not photographed them as such , just 'shot' them

Maniacal bordering on sick laughter follows...ha ha ha

Why, thank you. LOL. Makin' me blush, here.

The bouquet was a simple bunch of white calla lillies, which really are my favoriite. They were gorgeous.

My mother-in-law, who is very sweet but at times a bit over the top, was bugging me a bit too much about finding just the right dress for the wedding. I horrified her when I told her with a very straight face that white isn't my color and I was planning on siren red satin. Her Catholic sensibilities were horrified. LOL.

Not a lot if you look at Wikipedia - a dress is a gown but as Dave says - about £300 is about right :lol:
