Why are some Canon lenes white?

That kinda shooting could possibly be the one thing worse than working a wedding.

As for lenses, couldn't give a stuff if they're white, black, pink, green or polka dotted if they get me the money shot. I've never had to sink into the background thankfully and I doubt I ever will. :D

I think its fairly clear which is the Nikon shooter.
Best glass but.....:cuckoo:

yeah but come on!

just because they're not using canon, you don't have to shoot them all. ;)

I've got a white lens on my canon, it makes me feel big and clever :D

They do stand out and they look big and expensive .

It's quite obvious really, they're made white so that people can see what a good lens looks like, not hiding in the shadows with a well deserved inferiority complex like those Nik------, Nik------. no I just cant say it but you all know what I mean.

It's in jest by the way, no death threats please!

I've been a Canon Man for over 30 years now and my thing is street photography. In this type of photography I find it preferable to be discrete.

How I'm going to manage this now as I've bought a lovely big70mm - 200mm f2.8L in bright white I just don't know.

This business with white lenses almost made me turn to the obviously hugly inferior and far less sexy Nikon brand!!! It's OK, I'm only joking. But I realy very nearly did switch brand because of this white lens business.

Why on earth do Canon do this? What's wrong with a nice black lens like everybody else builds? Any ideas anyone?
Street photography... With a telephoto? You've got to be feeling the scene, not standing 400m away. Trade in that sweet lens and get something more discrete! :p

The 180L happens to be the longest black canon lens.

Nope. 200 f/2.8L is black

The 180L macro is 186mm long

The 200 f/2.8 is 136mm long

Perhaps I should have been more explicit in refering to physical length rather than focal length.

The point being that black and white overlap in physical length.

While everybody is saying "because the white helps reflect heat, ensuring maintained high image quality" why is the 24-70L, 24-105L, 50L, 85L, 16-35L and numerous other L lenses black? You can just as easily use them in a desert? Or maybe you cant because they are black? I think its just down to marketing because every other manufacturer is capable of manufacturing a black lens which can be used in a desert, the arctic and the rainforest. Canon are stating a brand. Nothing more really.
