I mentioned I'll be organising a studio sesion next year, probably late February, to concentrate on nude/glamour work.

Models (probably 3 of them), all female, will be booked for a full day and places will be limited to 15 people.
The studio I have in mind has three sets that can be used simultaneously, so there will be minimal amounts of waiting around - I'll split the group into three so as to get the maximum benefit on the day.

Cost will depend on how many interested parties there are. I will also require payment up front, which will be non-refundable, as once booked, the models and studio will have to be paid for, even if only three people turn up on the day.

Those interested can check out the Studio's website and bid for any model if they prefer. Otherwise I'll choose the subjects.

Here's the proposed venue:

wooo Smut 4TW :)

Might be interested depending on price, and whether my O/H agrees lol

:(

I'd love to give it a try but i think its going to be a bit far for me to go, i've got two days holiday left between jan and the end of march so it falls nicely in the middle. I'll give it some thought.

I'd be more than happy to be one of these 15, if you allow me, or if preference goes to more active members then I fully understand. Studio photography is an aspect that I'm wanting to gain experience in. Trying to follow in my fathers footsteps. But due to mother, he had to give up all his photography up, it was either photography or mother, and well he nearly chose photography :D

Studio costs I know don't come cheap, so I'm prepared. It would be amazing to meet some of on here too.

Here is some of the works I've been producing for various companies/event directors: http://www.kinobe.net/edsaikul/frlance/

Please feel free to add me on msn or via email to discuss dates as this is the most important thing, I'd be happy to talk over the phone too, as its much more professional that way.

Ed :)

I'd like some more info before I could commit. The first being dates. Because of the long distance I would have to get a room the night before. I saw the prices and with 15 of us the price shouldn't be too bad. I guess it depends on the models we choose. After all that dawdling put me down for a maybe until there is more definitive date.

I'm up for it Rob, but will need more info.
I will also probably need to sort some accommodation for it too.

I'd probably be interested in this one, always fancied doing some proper studio work!

Am definitely interested, even though I've never done any studio work before.... as long as not all the models we have look like Lola Ferrari. It would be nice to have at least one that resembles a normal woman with normal breasts ;)

Im interested too but cant give a definate until after chrimbo, Im also hoping to go to the Venice masquerade for my birthday in late Feb so I need to sort dates etc.

It would be nice to have at least one that resembles a normal woman with normal breasts ;)
Min .... you could always volunteer! ;)

I was thinking the exact same thing. I'd love to do a nude portrait but more in the art sort of way and less in the Playboy sort of way and I think a natural body lends inself to that more easily. Or maybe I'm just a prude.

He! he! ... I know the feeling Min ... 'a moment on the lips a lifetime on the hips' and all that jazz.

Take the gymn/diet plan nice & easy ... maybe you & I could get together next summer & do something!

Oh girls... were all going to have to have a girlie TPF meet sometime next year!

Very interested :)
Get a hotel booked and a few beers... jobs a good one! :)

Well done Rob on a very good idea. I am too far away (living in the arctic circle and all that) but wish you well with this endeavour!

A little note. One of our local camera club members organises a monthly photo shoot and get some lovely local girls to attend. One of the other photographers was not confident in taking full body shots so took a photo of the models hands. He won a European Salon competition with Best B&W from over 2,000 entries. Morale I suppose is to keep an open mind to the possiblities these events can produce.

I would be very interested but obviously depends on price and date.

OOh! HIMUPNORTH... do you have a copy of that hands pic, Id love to see as I enter the british comps myself.

No I don't and although taken digitally the photographer is a self-confessed computer luddite and only has printed versions to share

Will ask when I next see him where it may be found on tinternet. :)

Back on topic Rob (sorry Gloria!), please count me in...

OK then - a fair few of you there. It'll be open to anyone, so no preferences for longer-standing members.

Models will be all natural - I can't abide silicone and besides, that's not the sort of thing we'll be doing.
This will be tasteful nudes, not Top Shelf - the models will be booked on the basis of Figure-Nude prices and will spit the dummy if anyone tries to pose them in any other way.
It looks like I'd better book the models myself and I'll be doing this based on looks and experience - they may not be from this 'stable' as I'll email a few girls I've used in the past as wel as ones here. It's cheaper going direct sometimes as we'll avoid the studio commission.

Pencil in the last saturday of february for now - that gives me time to advance book the girls and for us to jiggle dates a bit within reason.

I can't really give everyone a price breakdown as it all depends on how many people commit. Look at each girl costing £100 for the day on top of the studio fees. Then divide that by how many of us turn up. That's why I need confirmed bookings and money up front - I don't intend for me and Mini or Catdaddy to be stood there footing the whole bill on the day.

Once I get firm commitnments from all of you, then we can stat to haggle over dates. Once a date is confirmed that we can all agree on, I'll book the models and ask for deposits.
When the money's in the bank, we'll go ahead. In the event that I get deployed somewhere, I'll transfer the funds to one of you (to be nominated) an they will either take over the event, or postpone it til I get back - again to be decided beforehand.
Hope that all makes sense - any queries, PM me or post here for public discussion.

Last Sat in Feb is the 24th which is perfect for me as I've got 2 whole weeks off work from that date :woot:

As long as it is a Saturday I can go. Just got permission from hubby but saying that I am limited to 150gbp for the studio model fees as I have to pay for a hotel and a train. So if it will be more than that I will bow out now.

Sounds good to me too... I'll put it in the diary...

Rob, have you thought of any time-for-prints/cd models? Any mileage in that, you reckon?

In my experience, the only models who do TFP/CDs are skip-rats (can't think of any polite way of putting it; sorry to be so un-PC) or are amateurs starting out, neither of which suits our purposes.
The benefit of paying Pro-Rates is that if they don't do a decent job, or prove difficult to work with, they don't get paid. It's as simple as that.
It's as much about attitude as looks - Kate Moss is the ideal example of this. She generally looks horrendous in 'real-life' but is totally professional in the studio and is able to be the perfect blank canvas - she appears to be whatever the photographer/client wants and is able to get on with everyone she wors with from tea-boys to clients. That's why she still gets the work.

I will explain that it's a training session and that they have to be ultra-patient with us and offer up ideas as well as being directed. It works out more work for them (rather than just being treated like cattle), but will (hopeully) work out with some better 'folio shots for them, which I'll offer in any case as a courtesy.

Those of you who intend coming, I want you to start scouring the magazines/websites and start looking for ideas for shots. By the time we get to the studio, I want you all to have at least one idea for a shoot, so that after the basic instruction period (how to talk to your model, how the lights work etc), we'll get on with each of your project ideas.

One word of caution - studios are hot - they have to be, as the models are getting their kit off and don't want to freeze. The lights soon generate a lot of heat and if you blokes don't want to look like red-faced sweaty pervs, wear light clothing. Light, baggy slacks and T's are the order of the day, despite what the weather may be doing outside.

If anyone has copies of Practical Photography Aug 06 and / or Digital Camera Feb 06, there's a great article in each mag discussing fine art nudes, how to shoot them, poses, etc.
I'm still in awe of Robert Mapplethorpe's female nudes, so that's what I want to emulate :D

I did say the FEMALE nudes, but I'm willing to shoot males if I have any willing volunteers... I'm sure I can find a bullwhip from somewhere ;)
