Yes
For quite a while now I had quit using flickr and just adding images directly into posts; but the size requirement really does limit quality, and often the forum reduces the IQ even further. I think a lot of times it doesn't really matter much as images aren't (usually shouldn't be) only about technical details. So now I'm wondering if it's worthwhile going back to using flick'r instead, even though the auto generated image is also often reduced in IQ.

Here's an example of what I mean... downsampled to 1024 and IQ at 95% to meet forum requirements.

This is a very hard crop; I still had to reduce the IQ to 95%, and this isn't even that great of an image to start with in terms of detail/IQ.

Flickr; allows for a bit larger image. And in this case a bit higher IQ/detail; but still reduced.

...there is more to an image than that for me. :)
I agree.

If an image interests me, lack of sharpness or tonality are irrelevant, Conversely, if the image doesn't interest me, no amount of technical quality will make me like it.

I will for an image I like - a small image is often too indistinct to give a good sense of the picture.

Sometimes, to see more detail and sometimes because I'm curious about the camera / lens employed and the Exif on Flickr may tell me.

Only where it takes my interest but it would rarely be for 'detail', as there is more to an image than that for me. :)

If not for more detail, then why do you need/want to see it larger?

I don't.

My response was to Gramps's comment that "there is more to an image than that for me."

Depends in how you are using "detail" ... if as in 'inspecting feather detail' (as is so often mentioned in bird photography), I don't need that.
However if it's for the benefit of enjoyment that a larger version brings, then yes I click through ... and maybe to check the exif.

Sometimes. It’s generally if the subject matter interests me and I think it deserves a larger view.

I click through to Flickr if it piques my interest. Also 99% of my photos I post on here are linked from Flickr, however quite often the appear soft on here compared with Flickr and other forums, quite ironic when you consider what this site is about ;)
