Because I still haven't, apart from being able to transfer the photos to the PC (which i have a memory card reader anyway). What other function does it have that's worth it?

I never open the cd's that come with the camera.

nothing in them that photoshop can't do :)

Well my old version of photoshop can't read .cr2 files (Canon RAW)

I install any software like that that looks interesting at least to try it out.

Installed it but never use it! I tried the DPP software but I find it quite limited for RAW conversion. As said Photoshop does everything I need really. I think just about the only time I'd use the other software that comes with the camera is to to a firmware update I guess

The canon stuff has that capture software thats lets you shoot teathered to usb, I've done that a few times but I havnt bothered to install the canon software since my last install of windows.

I installed the canon software so I could put my name into the cameras memory so it appears in the exif. And I once played with the remote control function with the usb lead. Think I used downloaded updates for those so may not have actually used the supplied CD. Not touched it since.

I always open my pics straight into my editor from the CF card so I don't bother with the Canon CD apart from the programme that lets you install your name in the camera (could be useful if it's nicked) and select some personal functions. Can't remember what it's called - might be Camera Bridge?

Hi boys and girls
there's a neat little bit of the Canon DPP that I use occasionally, the batch convert, to resize, rename, and convert from .Tif / .CR2 to Jpeg.
handy for proof piccies at 72dpi
Cheers
Dave:)

I tried it once, pretty average!! I've uninstalled it. Can't say anything attracted me at all!

 there are disks included with new cameras....

Well in the excitement of opening my new toy... erm... no... tool... ;) I dont notice the presence of them..

installed them when i first got it but no, not installed anymore, rawshooter is justy so much better than DPP. as said ive changed the name on the camera and used it to take a few computer controlled pictures but no, no real use for it anymore

I use mine occationally for timelapse work through my laptop, apart from that, no need.

I really like the viewer utility, lot quicker than bridge. Use it to quickly reorganise shots into subfolders and delete crap.

Is that the EOS Utility? I've been trying to figure out how to do that...

Yer, i think so. Just go to remote camera operation and select time delay settings. Well, that's what it's with on my Powershot G7 software. Can select time delay and frame count, which is all you need really.

I installed the software for the 30D last night, photostitch will be useful and I got my name into the cameras' memory via the utilities. I doubt I'll ever use DPP though.

/edit the only thing is it's installed a whole lot of carp for other canon models that I don't need...

i installed the odd one or two bits that are of use like the ability to add personal details to the image files created, other than that photoshop and RSP are just better.

Yes, this is great for your stuido type shots, instant full sized view of your images directly on your laptop/PC. Can adjust all the camera settings and shoot from the keyboard/mouse
