Who do you tip? (UK)

So they average well over 100 cuts per week to achieve that amount extra, at a tenner per that's well over a grand a week and that is just on tenner haircuts?
In the wrong business....

Seriously? You think a hairdresser / barber keeps every penny taken from each haircut?

Of course not, did not say that, but that is a hell of a turnover for tenner haircuts for one hairdresser. Not allowing for the more expensive options nor that most places operate with several hairdressers not just one, whichever way you 'cut' it ;) they seem to be on to a much better earner than most. Which btw contradicts my personal awareness of anecdotal evidence of what hairdressers make (hence those figures triggering my scepticism trigger ;) )

Barbers, yes. Easily. And that's personal experience.
Even taking in to account "more expensive options" (Not sure what kind of "Barbers" you're going to o_O )
Ladies hairdressers, not so much, but then the prices there are vastly higher, and an appointment can be 2 - 3 HOURS.
Salon owners are onto a winner. The employed hairdressers aren't, they are simply paid a wage.
Those who rent a chair within a salon will pay a fortune in rent.
They pay tax and NI just like everyone else....Hell some pay tax on "anticipated gratuities".

The only place I tip these days is at a restaurant if they are attentive. If they basically just bring the plates and clear away then I will leave a couple of quid but if they check everything is okay and then give you a bit of breathing space when needed like after you've paid the bill then between 10 and 15 %.

Being follicly challenged, I haven't been to a Hairdressers for decades.

I never tip Taxi drivers as I never use them as I'm always 'Des', as I'm a non-drinker

but if they check everything is okay
And usually when you have a mouthful of the main course I find, so all you can do is nod in agreement,
or splutter the half masticated goo all over the said waiter / waitress if you have a compliant :D

Surely a compliant (sic) face wouldn't spray food everywhere? ;)

Why would you require breathing space after paying the bill? I'm out the door and gone.

I'm usually finished way before then, whilst everyone else is taking great interest in what everyone is eating.

When I'm out with friends for a meal, I want to be able to finish my drink and carry on having a chat without being asked to leave.

Me too.
That's why I don't pay the bill until everyone's totally finished.

I know you said
I'm usually finished way before then, whilst everyone else is taking great interest in what everyone is eating.
But I'm sure you meant
I'm usually finished way before then, whilst everyone else is taking great photographs of what everyone is eating.

:D
