Yes
Got a real rush job for a single 6x4 that I need to get printed tomorrow.
I would use my home printer, but that has died today - bloody typical!

I normally use DSCL, but the urgency does not permit this time and I'm not going to pay silly money to get a single 6x4.

I've found boots to be on of the better ones on the high street and max speilman to be by far the worst.

Should be plenty good enough for a 6 x 4

TBH, if you've got a good photographic retailer, take the file in there and explain the situation and see if they can/will do you a couple of sample prints to help you decide which printer to buy FROM THEM. Of course, it would be dishonest to then go away and buy it from Amazon so since they've helped you out, do them the favour of buying the printer from them.

In answer to your question though, it depends very much on the town you're in and what's available. Sod's law, your home printer breaks down just when you need it, and it may do the same next time, so meanwhile, do the rounds of the high street printers and get some samples done. Personally, I would try the closest and most convenient place and if the print isn't good enough, try the next closest etc.

Good luck!

I took my CF Card along to Boots and tried using one of their Kodak printer stations. The print was awful - there was a definite pink tinge and one of the guys in the picture was wearing a thin striped shirt which came out all patterned (not sure what that technical term is). Tried another Kodak station and whilst not as badly pink tinged, it was still very poor.
Spoke to one of the girls and she suggested that we try using one of their big in-house printers. Whilst the print was considerably better, I still wasn't happy as it seemed to come out quite dark.

Asked a friend to try on his home Canon printer and it came out perfect.

This evening I picked up a Canon ip7250 and again the print came out perfect!

Bit past the deadline, lol, but I've been happy with my prints from Costco.
