White vs Grey paper for gelled lighting

This doesn't sit quite right with me now! Point 1 is okay, and so is point 2 but maybe for different reasons. The increased fall-off with grey is clearly there, and that's what matters in practise, but there are other factors influencing it, eg spill from the white ceiling.

I'll have another go later, try a couple of other things ;)

Further experiment proved inconclusive, even contradictory! I tried to be a bit more realistic, firing the flash at an angle to reduce direct reflection, killing all bounced fill light, then adding some fill-in etc.

I think the reality is that in practise there are a lot of overriding and highly variable circumstantial influences that are hard to unravel when trying to over-think this (as Garry said earlier). One fact stands though - grey offers much more control than white, especially with darker colours (unless the white background is so far back that it's effectively dark grey to start with).
