folks, what is the best and easiest way to fet a white unlit flooring the same colour as a lit highlight background. I want them both the same colour/brightness but still keeping the natural shadows the subject produces as without the shadow they look like they are floating. Thanks.

It's all about getting the angle right so that the light on the background reflects off of the floor. The light from the background will be blocked by the subject to create a shadow. Try lowering the camera, extending the background higher, or both. If the white floor isn't reflective enough put down perspex or white faced hardboard.

Edit: I've just realised you are looking for a post processing solution. Woops!

What do you get by dragging the top right of the tone curve to the left in Lightroom? Provided the subject is not as bright as the floor that should do the trick and will be quickest to apply to a batch of images.

To protect the subject? Yes that could work provided you don't get any of the floor in the selection. But it might also be unnecessary depending on the subject. This is the kind of curve I had in mind.

The floor is the little spike on the right and is now blown out.
