hi- you can get some great effects with different brolly types, a) silver/gold interior bouncing light onto subject - gives a stronger, more illuminated glow. b) white interior bouncing light onto subject- more diffused than silver, and has some light pass through that doesn't make it back out, but a softer overall choice. c) now, some brollies are made with very translucent material to allow light to pass through the back, i can't really see the advantage to this, having used all of the three options quite a lot in the studio for fashion & portrait work... if you're after a really subtle light source (as in the use of a translucent, backward brolly), instead you could just place the light source further away from the subject and on a lower setting with one of the first two mentioned brollies...works nicely every time!
