This is doing my head in.


It's that time of year (Christmas) when we get parcels - either delivered to us or as a result of online shopping.

I'm off work just now and have been 'home' for 3 months so, whilst I accepted the 'note' from the postman in the past - I wasn't shocked to see the news today.

I know my postie and if I'm out he sticks the 'whilst you were out' note through the door to say he's left the parcel in the blue wheelie bin. Easy.

However - we have a new postie so I keep being asked to go and collect BUT I know I was in.........

The news today..........

By all accounts they aren't even ringing the bell - just shoving the note through.

To make matters even worse - when folk have seen the note come through the door they've gone out to catch the postie and guess what - he doesn't have the parcel. It was left at the depot as they only ever planned to post the 'whilst you were out' slip :thumbsdown:

Ok can't speak for the whole country, but rules are usually nationwide, in our Area we have a clear office policy, which means that all mail that comes in has to go out the same day, at the moment we have extra staff dealing with parcels, some work late so redelivery can be attempted in the evening or earlier if people ring and request.

I personally have never been told I have to walk at the 4. whatever miles per hour that keeps being bandied about, it's been taken out of context :bang:

It seems at the moment that people have a total downer on RM, but just remember that if it goes so does the last mile, competitors have already said it's not cost effective to deliver letters to outlying rural areas, so if you want to collect your mail from a central collection point, just keep wishing for RM's demise, you never know your wishes may come true

I agree. Companies are queuing up to take over the profitable parcel delivery part of the business but how much do you think it would cost to send a letter to the other end of Britain without Royal Mail? A lot more than a stamp costs at the moment.

Its not like its a problem, seen as most of the time they are on strike and we dont get post anyway. So cant really say i'll miss it when its gone, as they are a bunch of moaning, lazy gits!

But I have worked for RM for nearly 20 years and in that time I'm pretty sure there have only been a couple of strikes, both not all out but just as this was, each division on 1 day over, which if I'm honest made hardly any difference and backlog mail was soon sorted.

Oh and if I had a pound for every time someone rings or calls to collect something and says they were in but we but we didn't ring I could have retired years ago. T

I'm not digging at the delivery guys with regards to parcels (Although they knock once and then start writing out the card even if it takes me 20 seconds to get to the door, i guess its the asumption they have to make since they deliver at times when people are at work) but Peterborough seems to be the RM strike hot-spot.

I worked at RM in the offices as a temp when i was younger, and had to cross a picket line, i was lucky other then the few hard stares, apparently later on they started getting abusive to people. I'm sorry but if we dont work we dont get paid and probably would have been sacked for not turning up due to the strike.

Its amazing how greed is usually the main factor in the strikes, and that the RM staff should be thankful they have a job in this current climate. And so what if they lose a days pay, with the backlog of mail, they get overtime and the chance to make that days pay back up!

As i say, our postie is alright actually, alot of the time leaves stuff next door if he hasnt already written his ticket out
But still, no Mince Pies for him! He will only strike if its not an M&S Mince Pie
