Hi all,

Just started a little venture of my own to earn some extra cash. Might need every penny soon as I am in the process of being made redundant!

I do not have very much experience with web creation so things are not too flash but any comments are welcome.

Many thanks in anticipation.

Good, clean easy-to-use website. Not too flashy (which is good!) Does what it says on the tin.

Only thing I would say is to add a phone number to your contact page.

My instant comment was.....

Why on earth use the word 'horsey' and 'equine' together.....

in my eyes these two words are associated with completely different markets..

Sorry:|

If I was you i'd drop the horsey...and aim towards a more classy venture..

You need to correct your fuel charge.

.35p = approx 1/3 of a penny per mile.

Small point but an awkward customer could query it

Are you presuming people will look at your domain name and know your in the UK ? I would make it nice and clear on your front page where you are located and the area your willing to cover..

Found bromley way down the page in prices.... so my above comment still stands.. dont make it hard for them..make it easy :)

Nice clean looking site and simple to browse

A couple of observations if I may:

On the home page you have the sentence -

I would like to extend the opportunity to you to be able to capture a special moment with your horse or pony.

A few too many instances of the word to perhaps?

Also, you say "please contact me using the link below." But there is no link below, it's on the right ;)

" I first became interested in them approximately 2 years ago, one thing led to another"

sounds like you married a horse

Code side of things - why use frames? The site has no need for them. First impressions is its a template site. The menu could do with been a bit bigger. You have no doctype, this causes major issues in some browsers.

target="self" isn't needed in the a tags, thats the default option and so it can be left out. unless your over riding that default in the css, but you shouldn't do that. Technically you should leave opening new windows/tabs to the user.

The logo is quite boring to be honest, doesn't speak at all to the user.

Several of your inline styles can be put into a seperate stylesheet.

Get rid of the mailto link for a proper contact form.

:)

It's a good start, I suspect you might not get that far up Google as there doesn't appear to be many Key Words. I think a good one for you would "Kent Horse Photography", splatter it liberally across your pages where it makes sense and it will do wonders for your google rank.

I personally don't like how I'm supposed to order - entering a code. I would be concerned that I might mistype, if you have a gallery with an add to button under the photo it helps build client confidence (galllery2 offers this facility with PapPal online payments - however it needs PHP and SQL databases - Heart Internet Offers this as a oneclick install for the 8.99 a month and above hosting packages)

Your prices seem a bit cheap to me, what are your local competitors charging? I'd make sure you are charging about the average (or perhaps just above). If you want to get a few initial sessions underway and want to attract busiess I'd put some special offers on e.g 35% off all print prices on sessions booked before July 1st - remember it's very difficult to raise your normal prices.

Hi

I also wondered why frames, when its the main frame inside another, I think it is a modification of a template called Gras, that just uses 2 columns, where as this is three, I would change the head banner to one of your own. :)

Frames.. It's called "url masking" if my memory serves...or cloaking.. years and years since I used it..

If you have a domain name but no hosting and place your wenbsite on a free hosting with a naff name.. you can use a frame to keep your domain name up there..

Not clever if you want to be in google though as all google will see is the frame code

Well thank you all for the responses that was very quick!

As I stated at the beginning I'm not very teckie when it comes to this kind of thing, I need to learn more about it. The web site itself was created using a program called realweaver on the mac. The same template is used for each page so whilst it is easy to use it is a little limited the way I am using it.

Thank you for the comments on the content I will change these points.

Kerioak, thanks for the tip I will look into that.

Surrealilusions, thanks for comments regarding frames etc, but I really don't understand (yet!). I did have a contact form set up, yes there was template!, but it did not work where my site is hosted. Apparently .mac does not support php (I asked why it did not work). I will have to move the site to get that working properly. May be something for the future.

SimonTALM, I don't know how to get my name into a google search, any advice appreciated!

I also don't know how to choose a photo and then pay for it. The way I have set it up is the only way I could think of. I probably have to learn how to 'code' before I can change this.

Prices are average / the norm.

Thanks again all your comments were very useful.

It's nice and clean, certainly better that mine :p

I know next to nothing about web design so I've no doubt what you're saying is right :) However, a lot of the business will come from being out there and telling people what the site is, handing out flyers etc. Word of mouth will also be important. If you can get a good name I'm honestly not too sure how important google is with this sort of venture, can't hurt though I suppose. :)
