While having my MOT done yesterday I was standing near the opening to the mot station a chap rocked up with a day glow vest on with the name of a courier on the back. The chap promptly asked if I was the gaffer, no I said and pointed to the chap in my car doing a brake test....The chap promptly pulls out a new sealed i-phone 6 and offered it to me for 300, I spotted in his leg pocket on either side another 2 of the same new and sealed i-phone's

I had forgotten at just how much stolen / acquired stuff gets offered to lads in garages....

In my time I was offered so much stolen booty, including Air tools, Snap-on tools, leather jackets, fish....lol indeed fish! paint, power tools, all sorts of electrical hifi and tv's. The most audacious offering came to me one Monday morning when I arrived at the garage at 7.00am there was a Pirelli truck waiting and as I opened up the chap was waiting at the roller door, he said can I interest you in any tyres? Err yes I said I am waiting on 4 from you guys - NO the bloke said I am selling these for a grand the lot......He opened up the back and there must have been 30k's worth of tyres.....funny enough including what looked like my own order of 911 turbo rears.....I declined as I always did on these type of things...The bloke got in the lorry and drove away - after thinking about it for 10 mins I picked up the phone to Pirelli just then a couple of unmarked police vehicles arrived and asked had I been offered any tyres......LOL The truck had been stolen from the last tyre drop and the bloke was trying to sell the tyres to the people who had already bought them on account...Police spoke to Pirelli from my garage - as I had them on the line they confirmed the truck had indeed been taken...driver left keys in and engine on...

I have not experienced anyone trying to sell me hot gear until yesterday........Looks like it still as rife as ever!

I know what you mean - My dad had a classic car business a few years back before he retired. Over the years we were offered tools stolen from local garages - one time a truck turned up and some pikeys were trying to sell some top of the range TV's - my dad bought 2 and told the guys to leave the boxes in the corner of the workshop. Upon taking them home, we opened the boxes up to find that inside was a load of old 70's TV's with the old classic wooden finish, I think we paid around £300 each so we were completely shafted!

As a note - I would suggest not to buy a mobile phone as the IMEI on the device now means every network has the capability to block such. It happens a lot on other forums, stolen phones are sold on working, then days later the devices lock because the IMEI has been reported on the international database. Lesson learned for all!!!

I hope you reported the chap and name of courier to the police. I can't stand these guys/girls

That's why there are so many phones on ebay as "perfect apart from no signal" they still get good sums as they will work fine in many countries outside the EU.

you will probably find the vest was lifted as well either out of a drivers cab or off a washing line

True, every little bit of information can help though.
