Which / what Solar?

Good on you for going solar it truly is the way forward . I have just had a quote to put a small system on the house in GC just to run the hot water and the electrics during the day with a small battery pack just to take the edge of at night and as long as we don't run AC it should go through. Quite a few people here have small systems just to run the pool during the day as the pumps and filters can be quite hungry but no battery system as they don't run at night anyway.

I thought I'd update this thread. We had our solar installation done a couple of days ago, 20 panels split between S and W facing roofs, Duracell 3.6Kw inverter, two Duracell 5kWh batteries, plus hot tank immersion heating, total cost £9k. So far I'm very pleased with it, all of our electricity is coming either from the panels or the battery, except if we really hammer it with both ovens on in the evening, but even then the grid requirement is trivial. I was getting 3kW power off the panels this afternoon and it was cloudy! It's made me start thinking about getting an electric car tbh, to replace the diesel estate, as we have excess energy available for charging.
Wait until you start selling power back to the grid - you'll never want to turn your ovens on again :)

Just got my latest bill and For September it's slightly negative (gas + elec + 2 X standing charge + charging the Tesla were a bit less than the electricity I sold). October will probably break even ish with possibly a small cost. Then it's the cold and dark months ;(

DD has been £5 for a couple of years now and we still have cash in the account.

I'm guessing selling back to the grid will help offset the mandatory standing charge?

I've just set up my micro generation renewables account with NIE so they can start paying me, although they need to change my meter first. At present, with the old meter in place, apparently the dial turns backwards when we are "exporting to the grid".

Today we were producing over 4kw from the panels at some points, so plenty of hot water and batteries fully recharged. My new hobby is watching the app! Roll on next summer and the long sunny days (yes we get quite a few of those over here, contrary to folklore).

haha you watching your app , i am currently watching stocks and pensions go up up up never seen so much growth.

The app is on my phone, I have Sharescope on my computer to monitor the investments. I bought Rolls Royce when it was in the doldrums, 700% up so far, also well up on some other defence related stocks.
