Hi all,

I recently got myself one of those Raynox macro converters & decided that it is high time that I really should get myself a tripod. Now I need something under the region of £100, but also something that isn't too heavy to carry around as I have to rely on public transport to get me to locations, so don't want something that is going to be too heavy to carry around with my current equipment. Can anyone recommend a tripod which is sturdy but also doesn't break the bank or my back. ?

Many Thanks
John

Getting the balance of price/weight/sturdy is a tough one. You probably will have to make a decision to compromise to a certain extent on one of those.

I have recently got a Redsnapper tripod which was a big step up from my earlier cheapy one that I had it's much more sturdy and much better quality and didn't break the bank (think it was about £70), However it is heavier than my previous tripod but not excessively so.

You can see there site here.

Cheap, light, strong. You can have your choice of any two of those. You'll find difficulty getting a tripod that has all three.

Thanks for the link, I will take a look

Sturdy enough for what?
Pointless getting a cheap, light tripod that doesn't support the weight of your gear.

I have a Canon 7D & my heaviest lenses are the Canon 70-30 IS and the Tamron 17-50 VC

Thank you for that information

Have a look at the redsnapper range.

Yep the tripod triangle

Cheap
Light
Sturdy

You can have any two,

I would invest in a decent tripod as soon as you can, it will probably outlast your camera as an investment.

For cheap and study check out the manfrotto 55xprob (or something like that) very robust and good value for money....but light it ain't

I'd suggest going second hand with that budget and getting something better. Redsnapper are very good, and great value but I would look at buying one of their better ones rather than the ones around the £100 mark.

Nothing wrong with those at all for general light use, but having bought 'budget' before I know how quickly you find their limitations.

Or the 190xpro3. Can be had for around £130 new. Same as the 055 but a bit shorter and lighter.
