Hello all,

What strap do you all use or your camera.

I do not like the standard one, need more length I feel on mine  easy now!!!

Feel I would like something that feels a bit stronger, maybe with quick release??

Cheers

Mikey.

R-Strap, blows everything else away for me...

Did you get stung for any tax/duty on your R-strap neo?

I think so, it was about £8 if I remember correctly. Quite a while ago I got it now...

Hmm I like the R-Strap, where do you get one, don't seem to be any UK dealers

No, there aren't. You have to order online from the US distributors. Worth the hassel though...

The one and only negative i have is that it uses your tripod thread so for weddings it takes a few seconds longer to switch from handheld to tripod. Mind you, usually you have time to setup the tripod before the bride enters the ceremony so it's no real issue.

Had a shoot yesterday and my Lowe-Pro one got on my nerves. Always liked the look of the R-Strap so I just ordered one!

Alternatively - make one of your own. See here

Pity no one in the UK distributes/makes the real thing though. You'd think that there would be a market, because the two "normal" ways of carrying a camera each have disadvantages.

If you look on Black Rapid's site they have a dealer in Germany, and their site is in English, they've none in stock but cost is £71 inc delivery! :thumbsdown:But I reckon it would still be cheaper from USA, even with tax.
So I'm ordering one from there.

With the current USD - GBP exchange rate it will definately be cheaper  Shouldn't be more than £50 deliverd, that accounts for tax if you get stung for it.

That's a lot of dosh though, don't you think? For a strap.

Indeed, it's not cheap. I just cannot get on with a camera hanging around my neck, and wearing a longer strap across my chest then causes issues when you want to pull it up to your eye. For the comfort and versatility this offers I am prepared to pay a bit more :)
It's also only silly money because of shipping and possible taxes, as a standalone item its only a tad over £30. I am actually quite surprised a UK distro has not been appointed, these would do well at a competitive price-point.

It is, but then it is an integral part of the work, and it's so frustrating to be using one that doesn't 'fit' right. When you look at some of the other pricey stuff we buy and then hardly use I suppose it'll get some mileage at least.

The group buy one looks good, just not sure how long it will be until we get one, was looking for a strap just now as I do not like the one I am using at all.

all the togs i know use the optech and the r strap, i got a kata neoprene thats the same as the optech with my kata bag that comes with a really cool set of hooks on the bag straps so your hands are free your camera where you can see it and access it and theres no weight on your neck too

I bought an Optech but found the strap shiny and slippery on my shoulder so reverted back to the original. My youngest loves it on his 400D though.

I also use an Op/Tech Pro strap, it's much more comfortable than the standard Canon 40D one and although I'm not too keen on the quick releases, I haven't heard any negative reviews about it.

UPstrap LINK

The best strap I've ever used for on the shoulder. Not so good for wearing around your neck though... but if you want to look like a tourist?

Seriously though, they are very good and really do just stay in place. Although I like the OpTech ones they do slip when you use them on shoulder, but I have to admit they're more comfortable around the neck.

I guess straps are as bad as camera bags... I've ended up with loads of them all in the search for the perfect one.

cheers

I had seen these, they do look good.

Is there anywhere you can get them from in the UK, do you know?

They'll supply direct to the UK no problem. It's only a small firm, started and run by Al Stegmeyer, but as far as I know his kids run it now. The only thing is that you usually get stuck with duty and VAT which makes them a bit expensive. On the other hand how many straps do you buy? I've had two UPstraps so far, gulped a bit at the price but soon forgot that, and have the pleasure of using them for years. I'd still recommend them over anything else I've tried though.

cheers

I have a couple of Optech straps but I use my R-Strap nearly all of the time. It's just so much more convenient/comfortable.

Just got the RS-5 delivered yesterday and cant fault it so far, really well made and very comfortable. I converted a KATA strap before to test whether i would like carrying the camera like that. Its by far the comfiest way for me, apart from the 70-200 tripod ring knob digging in now and again!

Ive just sold the black one on here, its a well made strap but i prefer the camera on my shoulder and the crumpler wasnt any good for that.

Oh, too slippy? might be able to modify it a bit to give it some grip.
