Apologies if this has come up before, but is there a tried and tested softbox solution for a Canon Speedlight 580 Exii that someone can point me towards?

I'd rather not have to attach it directly to the flash so it would need to come with a suitable bracket in order that the stand could support both the softbox and flash nice and securely. I'm also assuming that there'll be no problem using an ST-E2 trigger with this set-up? Alternatively, what's the view regarding the LumiQuest range?

Many thanks for your help...

The lastolite EZybox is good choice. there are countless copies of it available on EBay etc as well. The ST-E2 works with infra-red so although the flashgun will sit outside the box you will still need line of sight to ensure that it works.

Regards...

Thanks very much, guys - off to have a gander at the EZybox! Noted re the line of site issue (and is that a smug smile, Bob?).

The 622s are excellent Tony, very easy to use. I've tried one on camera as transmitter, with a pair as receivers with a 580 EXII on one and a Nissin Di866 II on the other. Auto, manual, ratios, HSS etc etc all controlled via the camera's menu (7D and 1D MkIII).There's a thread on here and a long one on POTN on them, worth a read to see what they can do. Also a guide here

Interesting stuff. I was lucky, anyway, in picking up the ST-E2 as-new and relatively cheaply, and as my first forays into this kind of flash photography will be with a single unit I'll stick with that for now.

I think I'll experiment for now, and I've bought the Manfrotto 026 adapter with a cold shoe, together with a cheap translucent umbrella. I'm used to monobloc heads (although I havent used studio equipment for years) so I'm really looking forward to having a go.

No, I saw that and figured hat for the price I couldn't go wrong :)

This might be a noob question but would the neewer 24" softbox fit on my existing light stand on to which I attach my Manfrotto 026 Lite Tite Swivel + Umbrella adapter?

All lighting accessories use the same 5/8in spigot fitting.

this is also recommended on a few of the strobist forums! I bought it but not had much time to use yet but it is very good quality and delivery is fast
