Which should I trade in?

Yes
I am looking at getting some Lee filters and didn't realise how expensive there are, so have decided to trade in my 3rd body to help pay for them. Question is which body?

I have the D300 as my main body and this replaced my D80, and my D80 replaced my D50. I hardly ever, in fact once in 3 years, use more then one body at a time.

So do I trade in the D80 or the D50?

Do you ever use the D80/D50?
I can see it being that you only use the D300 and the D80 and D50 are sat collecting dust.

If thats the case, trade them both in imo.
If not, pick the body that has exactly what you want.
If the D50 is sufficient as a back up body, trade the D80, you'll get more money.
But saving the D80 means saving a better body, but you'll get less money for the D50.

No don't use the D50 or the D80, well thats not quite true, I used 2 bodies when I went on safari, but I don't go on Safari every day! And there was once when I was using the D80 to shoot a sunset before I had the D300 and at the time I only had the 1 body with me, but wish I had 2 to save lens changes.

Don't think I want to trade both because of that very occasional time that I want 2 bodies. Think it makes sense to keep the D80 and trade the D50.

Tough choice!

The D80 has better resolution, more AF points, better AF control and the built in wireless flash controller built in (IIRC the D50 doesn't) but I believe the D50 is better for Infra Red photography (if that's something you may be interested in) as the built in filtration is weaker.

Of course if you just want a backup the D50 will be fine and you'll find you'll find the D80 body only easier to sell and will net more. I suspect you'll struggle to sell the D50 body only as this really isn't an upgrade to anyone and won't be useful to a starter without a lens. The D80 should have more life left in it.

Personally I'd definately want a second body and would probably keep the D80 perhaps seeing if I can pick up a bargain 18-55 to flog with the D50 so it is a "starter kit".

There is a very specialised shop here in Perth that I have been speaking to about the Lee filters. They deal with second had stuff to and have said they would be interested in a trade for the body only. Question is how much will they give me!!!! I'll go see them on Friday.

If you are selling only I'd guess they'll offer you about 50-60% of the price D50 Bodies sell for. If you are trading you'll probably get about 10% more. I'd be suprised if you get much more than £125 possibly not even that much. Remember they have to cover their overheads, cover the warranty they offer and they're a business so they'll want to make a profit.

Just like anything else you'll be better off selling privately.
