Hi Guys,

Im based in London, UK and i want to get my first camera, unfortunately it won't be an slr for now.
I wanted to know where you guys usually purchase your cameras, places like argos used to do moneyback garantees if you are not satisifed with their products but on their website under most cameras it says
Please note that this product is excluded from our 30 Day Money Back Guarantee. This does not affect your statutory rights.

I have noticed many people on here saying they returned certain cameras after having bought them so i am wondering how this works? im going to be spending somewhere around £200 so i want to purchase from a place where i can return if i am not satisfied with it?

what about online places like amazon do they do money back if yout not satisfied?

thanks
Mari

I purchased a Sony A65 from Jessops a while back and returned it with no problems after I decided the A65 wasn't worth it for me. You can return your camera within 30 days as long as it's in pristine condition, fully boxed etc. etc.

I've also returned stuff to Amazon again with no problems. In fact they were excellent to deal with. Under the 7 day DSR you can return almost anything you buy. They do deduct £4 for return courier if you are returning it because you want to rather than any error/fault of theirs.

I do always try to buy stuff from Amazon wherever I can because as a Prime member it comes next day and I am confident I can return it with minimal aggro if for whatever reason I decide to.

Hi thanks for the info :)

what if you purchase a second hand camera that is supposed to be in good condition from a user on amazon, can you still return without any problems?

Mari,
One of the most important things when looking to buy a camera is to get some hands-on experience by going to a shop that will allow you to handle a camera and ask a few questions..
Sadly this isn't often possible as so many places want to sell you a box rather than find out what you actually want or need.
I am not in London but have in the past used and recommended a place in Chiswick -

http://chiswickcameras.co.uk/

This is only a small place but the staff will, if they have time, allow you to handle a few cameras, give some good advice and do try to sell you the right camera. Your budget suggests some sort of compact or maybe a bridge camera and this is just the sort of thing they stock. Being a small shop they don't have a massive range but they do know their stock and are enthusiastic and if you can get there on a weekday you may find yourself spending an hour or more choosing !
However, they may not be as cheap as an Argos type of shop or online but you may find it the best way to get a camera that suits your needs.
But before all that, do you know what sort of thing you want and what sort of things you want to take pictures of ?
You may want a very minimal shutter delay if taking pictures of kids who move about fast, or a massive zoom may be high on your list of priorities..

I don't know what happens with places like Amazon so cannot help..

Argos stopped doing the 30 day returns after it emerged that some unscrupulous people were buying a camera. They then went on holiday for a fortnight used it and then returned it. Thus getting a free camera for their holidays. ;)

Im thinking of getting the panasonic lumix dmc-fz45 i have read good reviews on it and you can get a used one from amazon for about £180

Im just a bit concerned about if i can return it or not if i am not satisfied with it
