Hi all, I have just posted my first post in the welcome forum so I am very new to the site. Basically I am very new to the world of interchangeable photography, having being bought a Samsung NX3000 for my birthday just last weekend this is my first experience of changing lenses. I've not really had the chance to have a proper play but I plan to take the dog with my husband onto the beach early Sunday to catch the sunrise, so I will see what I can get then. My camera came with a 20-50mm lens and was wondering what lenses you would recommend. I live on the coast with my husband, 2 children and a very active 1yr old Beagle. Also, in August we have just booked a 5night stay in London so I want to get the best out of my camera for scenery, sights, indoor and outdoor, children and dogs. I was thinking of maybe selling on my 20-50mm and getting a 16-50mm power zoom instead and then maybe something else. I don't really want to be spending too much and I don't really want anything too bulky and where is the best place to get the lenses on the internet?. Also, as I'm new to all of this, could you keep your answers as simple as possible please, all the talk about ISO, AF, aperture, shutter speed, etc is very alien to me. Any advice is greatly welcomed and I promise to share anything worthy of sharing.

Thanks in advance,

Sarah.

Hi Sarah,

Welcome to the forum :)

Firstly, I know nothing about the Samsung system so can't comment about specific lenses BUT generally the best advice is to use what you already have until you understand how it's limiting your photography.

Secondly, I know you said it was confusing but a grasp of understanding of ISO/Aperture/Shutter Speed will really really really really rally help your photography. This website explains it simply, it's worth reading :)

Hi Sarah and welcome to TP.

Have a Samsung NX30. Great wee camera.

I have a 18-55 and a 55-200. This, with 2 lens, covers a nice focal range. Personally, if I were you, I would keep the 20-50 and get a 55-200. I think there are several versions, so try to get the latest (think it version 3), which you may be able to pick up for another £100 used.

Once, if you get caught by the photography bug, you can then look at upgrading to faster (smaller aperture) lens. But like everything, best to start taking baby steps, then progress. You'll find, if you look after your lenses, you'll be able to sell them without losing much money.

Any more questions, feel free to ask, TP'ers are a great bunch of very knowledgeable people.

Great thanks guys, I will check that site out Nawty. And I can see what you're saying Johnny, I will play around with the lens I have, I was looking at the 50-200 lens so that I can get close shots so, maybe I will give that one a go, then take it from there.

The 30mm f2 pancake is a lens every samsung owner should own. It can be had for around£130 on ebay. Fast, small and great for lowlight.

Also i was unaware the nx3000 came with a 20-50.

Samsung make good lenses and becuase they are less popular you can get great deals on used lenses☺
