Lost my trusty Epson R2400 when my home got flooded, so upgraded to the R3000. As I have no paper left either wondered what you guys think is best paper to print B&W on? Deliberately leaving the question open as I want to encourage all ideas. Thanks :)

Not meant to be a stupid question, :), but why wouldn't the papers be the same? I thought the inks were similar and printing capability? If it's a whole step up in quality or capability, I'd like to hear.

If you use a CIS, or refill cartridges such as Fotospeed or Permajet, aren't the inks exactly the same and hence the same papers as a 2400. Interested of course as I have a 2400.

If I knew everything I wopuldn't have posed my original question, but I do know that there are many different papers and whilst consistency of results can be obtained by using profiles relating to paper and printer, each paper will give slightly different results. I have never used any other inks than Epson ith my old 2400 (personal choice, and I didn't feel I printed enough to warrant adopting CIS)

I was happy with my 2400, but since I had no choice but to replace it I opted for the 3000 after reading reviews (I trust Northlight in these things, among others). This uses more inks and is reckoned to be a step up from 2400 and it's successor 2880. I wouldn't have traded up if the flood hadn't heppened.

I wanted to know if anyone had any expereince of using papers with the 3000, especially in B&W :)

Thnx POAH

No worries just look for the best deals.

Epson traditional photo paper
Ilford gold fibre silk
Harman by hahnemule gloss art fibre

These papers have a slightly mottled surface which I prefer although you can get FB papers with smooth surfaces

Innova white gloss
Innova ultra smooth gloss
Harman by hahnemule gloss baryta

Innova also make a couple of interesting papers

Semi glazed
Semi matt

All these papers give better DMAX than cotton rag papers and have good longevity too

Fotospeed also make a range of FB papers ( they were the original Inkjet FB makers)

As for a CIS you can only get 3rd party carts for the 3000. I use a fotospeed CIS with my R2400 with no problems.

Best bet would be to get some sample packs

Thanks POAH, REALLY helpful reply :)

only problem I found with permajets fibre based papers is they have a bad curl so you are likely to get head strikes at the edges.

not had that problem myself with my R2400
