Yes
I'm going to ask for some software for Christmas but before I do I've got a question?

I'm going to ask for Photoshop Elements 7 or Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2.

I assume they pretty much do the same things, they are both in my price range.

However, and this may seem a stupid question, do they both allow me to put a plain frame around my pictures?

I will be a brand new user of this type of software and I am leaning towards the Adobe product unless anyone wants to put me off.

I moved ovr from corel to elements for a number of reasons. The main being I prefered the file managment of elements and also the interface.

Why don't you download the trials of both and see which you prefer?

Yes both allow you to put plain frames around your images.

In Elements 6 there are three frames in photo effects and under the Art tab there are 230 more different frames to choose from, does this help. :)

Magazines do more tutorials based on Photoshop and Elements than PSP.

I'd suggest photoshop too.
I've spent years using paintshop and i'm only just now becoming better at using photoshop instead and it is better.
More tutorials and plugins for photoshop available too.

most of the ps tutorials are easy to transfer into psp, its just knowing where to look. i think psp is slightly more powerful than elements, but cs2/3/4 beat it hands down. elements is a stripped down version of cs2 (adobes big photoshop program).

for a little over budget, if you happen to have a student in the house(school, college etc). adobe do a large discount on the full cs3 or cs4 program.

excellent results can be obtained with both and for the majority if you get it right in the camera, half the program wont really be needed.
